[Elysia Cosplay] The Girl with Pink Hair: Authentic Moments from an Anime Convention Shoot

The theme for this Anime convention shoot was Elysia Cosplay from Honkai Impact 3rd. The trickiest aspects of this costume were the hair color gradient and the texture of the leg accessories. While the wig was voluminous, styling it required special attention to create a natural transition where the Pink hair meets white, avoiding awkward breaks. To maintain a soft facial expression, I specifically adjusted the diameter of the purple contact lenses, which, paired with pink eyeshadow and blush, accentuated the dreamy, airy visual tone. The starry gradient fabric on the dress has high reflectivity; to avoid issues under the convention lights, we found an area with softer lighting and used fill lights to preserve the fabric's rich texture and layers. In particular, the Leg garter on my thigh and the metallic accessories required extra care while walking to avoid snagging the fabric. Given the complex lighting at the venue, metallic pieces could easily overexpose, so ample dynamic range was preserved for post-processing, focusing on recovering highlights and shadow details to retain crisp coin engravings.

With heavy foot traffic at the Anime convention, we used a telephoto lens to both blur out the cluttered crowd in the background and capture well-proportioned full-body perspectives. The three-quarter full-body shot in Photo 5 is one of my favorite compositions: turning slightly to the side accentuated waist and leg lines while prominently featuring the staff prop in my hands. I completed all the styling and makeup myself, from nail art to wig trimming—it was a time-consuming process, but the results were fantastic. I often experiment with cosmetic padding and tape for contouring; this time, I was very happy with the nose highlight and jawline shading, making the facial contours appear much more refined. The golden chest accessory took extra effort, as it had to align precisely with the cutout on the dress, requiring quite a bit of adjustment time. The decorative parts of the Leg garter were lightweight, so there was no worry of them sagging, but during full-body shots, mindful posing—extending one leg slightly forward—made the legs appear even longer and more slender. The entire shoot took about three hours; though physically demanding, faithfully capturing the character's core aura and demeanor made it completely worth it. Light shifted seamlessly between starry purple and bright white, and the final results were exceptionally ideal—truly a joyful and fulfilling experience.
