This photoshoot features Yixuan's Trails of Ink outfit from Zenless Zone Zero, taking quite a while to prepare from conceptualization to final shots.
The upper body black patent leather texture jacket serves as the visual centerpiece of the entire costume. It features a sharp, structured tailored fit, reflecting crisp sheen under studio lights. Gold trim outlines the collar and jacket edges, combined with a white round embellishment on the chest, blending techwear with mystery seamlessly. To maintain the glossy sheen of patent leather, we specially adjusted the light incident angles during shooting to avoid harsh glare losing details, while preserving the material's rich weight and premium feel.
Complementing the jacket is a dramatic bell sleeve design. Sleeve edges feature irregular jagged cuts printed with grey-and-white cloud-like patterns. These wide cuffs naturally create an elegant extending sense with every gesture, while gold metal weights dangle from the sleeve tips, adding substantial weight that clinks with movement. For this Trails of Ink look, what impressed me most were these flowing cloud-like sleeve cuts; they required intricate tailoring craftsmanship and careful handling during wear to prevent creasing, testing craftsmanship in every detail.
Lower garment's white multi-layered miniskirt forms a strong light-and-dark contrast with the top's black patent leather. The scalloped wave hem white fabric is dotted with fine grey patterns, while faint gold waist chains dangle underneath, adding sophistication so the white skirt never feels plain, reaching a harmonious balance with the upper techwear vibe.
Matte black tights were chosen for the lower half, paired with black glossy patent leather high heels. This material pairing makes leg lines look sleek while echoing upper body patent textures for layered depth. In full-body shots, the combination of black tights and patent shoes grabs attention, highlighting slender proportions and presenting a relaxed posture.
For hair, a silver-white long wavy wig was worn. The hair strands felt smooth, flowing naturally in the breeze. A signature ahoge was carefully left on top, with a small black clip on the front bangs—getting these details right brings the demeanor closer to official settings. To capture hair floating in the wind, we repeatedly adjusted fan placement to ensure strands didn't look messy or stiff.
Makeup focused heavily on eye styling. Eyeshadow and contact lenses carried dark red tones, conveying a mysterious, distant visual impression. Skin tone was processed pale to match silver-white hair, crafting a cool demeanor before the camera. Eyebrows were lightened to harmonize with silver hair, softening facial features while fitting the character's cold, composed vibe.
We selected a clean, light grey gradient background for this shoot. Since the costume itself holds abundant details and highlights, a clean background maximizes visual focus on the character, highlighting patent leather reflections and white fabric layers without clutter distractions.
During shooting, I tried to recreate that classic line: \"All who enter my mountain gate shall be relieved of their troubles.\" Although representing a cool and heroic setting, fun moments happened during shooting. For instance, while adjusting wide sleeves, I often bumped into things or blocked my sight due to large movements. This reminded us that recreating a character requires not only hair and makeup, but also precise physical movement control.
Posing for big action shots in this Anime-style outfit felt surprisingly easier than expected. Without heavy armor or cumbersome skirts, flexibility was high, allowing comfortable execution of stretched poses like crossing hands behind the head. Every detail, whether fabric cuts or material choices, strove to match the Trails of Ink skin design.
This was an immensely gratifying character recreation process. Wearing such a design-forward Anime-style outfit to portray a character felt truly ceremonial. Despite long preparations, seeing this moment frozen before the camera made every effort worthwhile. Finally, apologies for any imperfections, and thank you all for reading!
