Cosplaying Wang Zhaojun's Absolute Zero skin from Honor of Kings at the convention this time involved countless fascinating nuances from preparation to final photos. Since these are convention photos, on-site environmental factors were largely unpredictable, putting pre-shoot preparation to the test. Hair-wise, the vivid cyan-blue wig needed airy yet defined layering; the bangs and face-framing strands required meticulous trimming, while heavy styling spray was applied to the crown so it wouldn't collapse while walking around—stiff to the touch, but a necessary compromise for the silhouette. The white plush crown headpiece had to be pinned down ultra-securely to prevent gear mishaps in dense convention crowds.
The makeup highlighted the frosty theme with an extra-pale base, cooling blue-violet tones across the eyeshadow and liner, and delicate snowflake markings traced by hand with liquid eyeliner onto the forehead and under-eye area. Setting the face thoroughly was essential to keep sweat from breaking down the makeup. Wardrobe-wise, the Absolute Zero outfit primarily features white plush trim and glossy blue fabric. The silver gauntlets and cuffs adorned with blue gems are quite rigid, prone to pinching the wrists during prolonged poses and demanding regular readjustment. Oversized plush arm warmers paired with the plush-hemmed skirt to form substantial battle attire; while visually freezing, it offered surprisingly good insulation in the crowded hall.
During shooting, the photographer and I explored diverse angles to channel the frosty detachment of Absolute Zero. One stance featured looking back over my shoulder with an aloof, distant gaze while balancing the presentation of the staff prop. The staff is quite long, equipped with a custom glowing blue element at its base. Finding clean backdrops on-site was tough, so we settled on a corner with clean grey walls and overhead ceiling lights. A wide aperture blurred out crowds behind, while off-camera fill light grazed my face to evoke a studio-grade texture. In post-production, we lowered ambient tones to accentuate the crisp contrast between blue and white, layering abundant snowflake VFX, ice crystal particles, and a glowing magical aura around the staff head to make static frames pulse with dynamic magic.
The distinct thrill of convention shoots lies in that live spontaneity, demanding on-the-fly compositional pivots. With fellow fans watching and passersby occasionally drifting into the frame, quick shutter snaps and finding unique angles became crucial. Throughout shooting, I stayed anchored in character as a frost sorceress. The hall was noisy, yet I filtered out the din, locking my gaze past the lens to find that serene stillness of Absolute Zero. Every shutter click was a fresh interpretation of the character. Hope these photos bring everyone a refreshing, chilling breeze.
