[Asuma Toki cosplay] Blue Archive: Live Shoot Record at Guangzhou Anime Convention

The convention photos from Day 1 of the 3rd Guangzhou Anime Convention are finally organized. Choosing to do an Asuma Toki cosplay came after thorough preparation during the early planning stages. The entire shooting process was incredibly fun and filled with mini challenges. The weather on the day of the shoot was drizzly and overcast, turning puddles on the ground into natural mirrors. This made us extra cautious while scouting locations, but it also yielded unique reflective perspectives.

Returning to the styling, the white and sky-blue mechanical maid outfit is instantly recognizable. The oversized sky-blue bow on the chest was truly the finishing touch; to keep its crisp, defined shape, I constantly adjusted its angle on-site. The halo headpiece was the soul of this look, secured carefully with hairpins so it wouldn't wobble while walking. For the wig, I selected light blonde fibers, trimming the bangs and sides to match the character's clean, sharp contours.

To enhance the visual layering and tactical feel, I paired the look with long black gloves and white bracers. The lower half featured white pantyhose and white block heels, keeping the palette unified across black, white, and blue. Because the ground in Guangzhou was very damp that day, walking along wet asphalt in white stockings and white heels meant constantly watching out for puddles and mud splatter, which added a bit of difficulty to the shoot. Under the photographer's guidance, however, we found an area with fewer puddles. Through deliberate seated and crouching poses, we beautifully highlighted the leg lines and the delicate texture of the white stockings. Sitting on a small black folding stool with legs extended across the wet pavement kept the outfit clean while creating a striking contrast against the environment.

For props, the white-and-blue giant firearm model possessed substantial volume and a solid weight in hand. Initially, holding the gun steady with one hand while maintaining expression control during standing poses was a true test of core strength, but after a few tries, I found the right balance and leverage. The paint detailing on this prop was exceptional; the black lines and sky-blue accents closely echoed the costume, serving as the perfect medium to convey combat prowess.

With crowds bustling at the convention, capturing clean and atmospheric convention photos was a testament to the photographer's candid shooting skills. A huge thank you to photographer Eighth Root for his patient guidance. We experimented with standing, crouching, and sitting compositions, and for every frame, he patiently adjusted camera angles while ensuring smooth coordination between the subject, ground reflections, and background bokeh. The diffused, soft lighting without harsh direct sun rendered skin textures delicately smooth, lending the entire frame a cool, refined aesthetic.

Throughout the shoot, I aimed to capture the calm, focused everyday demeanor of Asuma Toki. Rather than forcing a sweet smile, I maintained a calm yet focused presence, conveying a dedicated readiness for battle through my eyes. Successfully pulling off this Blue Archive cosplay and walking away with so many wonderful shots made this an unforgettable convention experience.
