[Hifumi cosplay] Blue Archive: Refreshing Moments by the Summer pool

Coming to Sanmiao Photography Studio to shoot this Swimsuit cosplay of Hifumi was such a delightful surprise—the set design was truly amazing. With artificial sand, a blue-and-white mosaic pool, and corners piled high with yellow rubber duckies, summer felt palpable the moment I walked in. To faithfully capture Hifumi's summer look from Blue Archive, we spent hours fine-tuning the makeup and costume details. Once the light blonde twin-tail wig went on, the whole vibe turned lively, with the halo overhead and pushed-up black round sunglasses adding the perfect finishing touches. The black-and-white ruffled swimsuit was not only adorable but also needed to fit snugly; before shooting, we repeatedly adjusted the ties and ruffles to ensure they looked their best even in dynamic poses.

The shooting process was actually much more physically demanding than expected. To align with the studio's artificial sunlight lighting, I constantly had to tweak my sitting and reclining angles. Kneeling poolside while hugging the swim ring required keeping my core engaged the entire time to maintain clean bodily lines. To look effortless, I held rubber ducks or posed with a volleyball, keeping my gaze bright and spirited. There were plenty of seated poses—like crossing legs on a lounger or playing with water by the pool edge—which beautifully accentuated the leg lines. With abundant moisture and reflectors around, the photographer continuously balanced the light ratios to ensure radiant skin tones while capturing that glistening, shimmering texture on the water's surface.

Water shoots demand vigilance regarding wardrobe malfunctions and makeup longevity. Swimwear easily shifts, so we frequently adjusted it between breaks. Because of all the splashing, wigs can easily become waterlogged and flat, and we also had to avoid smudging the makeup. Props like the swim ring and volleyball were wonderful aids; they not only filled empty visual space but also gave my hands natural places to rest. After every poolside setup, my legs were covered in sand, but seeing the lively summer holiday vibe captured in the final cuts made every bit of effort worth it.

The overall tone of this set leans fresh, sunny, and natural, free of heavy post-processing. In my regular shoots, I prefer transparent, luminous tones that best showcase fabric textures and authentic skin glow. For character portrayal, Hifumi possesses a distinctive blend of cuteness and gentle reassurance; that quiet yet slightly playful expression when she clutches a yellow duck was something I worked hard to convey. Though static photos, I hope through light, shadow, and body language everyone can feel the effortless joy of her day at a summer beach.

After an entire day of hard work—from set building and lighting setups to countless micro-adjustments—the goal was always to bring a 2D character to life in three dimensions. Looking through these photos feels like genuinely spending a relaxing summer afternoon alongside her. I will keep honing my presence in front of the camera and exploring characters from all walks of life.
