For this photoshoot of Rem cosplay, I chose the classic black-and-white Maid outfit. The costume is rich in detail, featuring well-defined white lace trims at the neckline and cuffs, while the ruffled hem requires careful attention. To remain faithful to the character design of this 2D Cute girl, the lower half was paired with pure white pantyhose (White stockings), a highly signature element of Rem's styling. For the wig, I selected light blue, trimmed the bangs, and pinned a small pink hair clip on the left, which, combined with the pearl-accented black headband, completed the head styling.
For scene decor, I chose an indoor venue filled with retro elements. The backdrop wall was a warm pink; to the left stood a faux-stone fireplace adorned with props such as photo frames, a ukulele, a plaster bust, and wood carvings. To the right was a small round table draped in a white lace tablecloth, hosting a vintage table lamp and a three-tiered dessert stand filled with macarons and mini cakes. Piles of dried branches and clusters of reeds rested by the wall. These props added visual depth to the frame, ensuring it never felt empty or monotonous.
During shooting, the use of light was crucial. Warm-toned light cast across my face and clothes accentuated the textures of the White stockings and black skirt hemline beautifully. In the first shot, I intentionally showcased the lines of the White stockings and legs—a visual highlight that many fans appreciate in a cosplay photoshoot. However, considering the overall composition, my favorite is the final shot. In the last photo, I sat in a wooden armchair, crossing my legs and lifting them slightly with my hands resting on my lap. This pose not only fully displayed the silhouette of the Maid outfit, but also framed the White stockings and shoes seamlessly. The beige cushion of the chair harmonized with the background palette, keeping the subject centered and visually balanced.
Shooting this set was truly a test of physical stamina, as holding a taut, disciplined seated posture while ensuring the skirt and White stockings fell at flattering angles—without accidental exposure or awkward wrinkles—required constant effort. Meanwhile, my gaze and expressions had to match the character's demeanor. Throughout the shoot, the photographer continuously adjusted camera angles to ensure the desserts and fireplace in the background blended naturally into the frame. Although exhausting, seeing the final photos made all this meticulous control worthwhile. I really love this set, and I'll keep working hard to bring more great works.
