[Misaki cosplay] Blue Lights and Shadows Under a New Year Qipao: Firefly Day 2 Outdoor Shoot Record

On Day 2 of Firefly, I wore this modified Qipao for New Year Misaki cosplay and took advantage of Guangzhou's great weather for an outdoor shoot. The white Qipao fit nicely, with highly accurate red frog buttons and tassel details at the collar. Paired with black tights and white high heels, the overall look felt refreshing with a touch of playfulness. The crescent-shaped hair accessory and twin long braids are the soul of this Blue Archive character, gently swaying as I walked.

We intentionally chose a scene with lush greenery and a stone path, where natural light and shadows outlined the silhouette of the outfit. The "Happy New Year" scroll served as both a prop and a great compositional element. I tried various poses—standing on one leg looking back over my shoulder, kneeling, and sitting on the ground. The single-leg lift pose (which became the cover) beautifully showcased the Qipao's high slit and the sleek lines of the Black stockings cosplay look. Photographer Tangerine Peel managed the lighting exceptionally well; backlighting created a gorgeous halo along the edges of my hair.

A lot of thought went into this outfit, makeup, and prop setup, from wig styling to Qipao waist adjustments. After all, cosplay is more than just putting on clothes; it's about matching posture and expression to the character's temperament. The New Year theme paired with the bright red scroll fit the festive holiday atmosphere perfectly. Though passersby occasionally watched during the outdoor shoot, focusing on the camera helped me express myself more freely. Once rolled up, the scroll was easy to carry around, making it simple to snap candid moments outside the venue for these convention photos.

Every time I complete a character with Chinese style elements, I appreciate the modified Qipao design even more—it retains traditional charm while allowing easy movement. The abundant sunshine in Guangzhou over these two days reflected off the stone floor to naturally brighten my face without needing much extra fill light. In the later sitting poses, the skirt spread naturally alongside the scroll, creating a relaxed, organic feel. I hope this set of New Year Qipao cosplay photos conveys festive brightness while leaving me with wonderful cosplay memories.
