The Hangzhou CP30 convention photos are finally sorted out! This time, I brought along my signature white dress, twin tails, and that grey plush rabbit. A lot of thought went into this look, from the makeup and hair to the outfit itself, and today I want to share some little behind-the-scenes details with everyone.
Let's start with the hairstyle. Light blonde straight hair with blunt bangs, tied into low twin tails with black ribbons on both sides. To maintain the volume and natural drape of this hairstyle, it took nearly an hour just to style the wig. The flow of the hair strands is crucial, especially for the bangs; if they're too thick, it looks heavy and dull, but if they're too thin, it lacks that cool yet innocent feel, so I intentionally kept a layered look when trimming. The position of the black bows was also adjusted repeatedly, finally fixed just diagonally behind the ears. This way, they don't obscure the shape of my face while echoing the overall black-and-white color scheme.
For the outfit, I chose this white short-sleeved top with lace trim. The neckline features a ruffled lettuce-edge design, paired with a black bowtie. Hanging below the bowtie is a metal chain with a crucifix pendant, a detail that perfectly adds a touch of Gothic vintage flavor. The two buckled leather belts at the waist were actually modified by myself; the original belts were too wide, so I took them apart and re-sewed narrower ones, which naturally delineates the waistline when standing without making the skirt look bulky. The white long skirt for the lower body is made of a relatively lightweight material, offering a wonderfully flowing movement when walking, with the lace trim along the hem echoing the top. For the shoe and sock combination, I chose black platform Mary Janes paired with white lace calf-high socks. This pairing is quite common at conventions, but what makes it special is the argyle pattern of the sock lace, creating a visually staggered contrast with the lace edges of the skirt hem.
As for the props, this grey plush rabbit can be called the soul of this look. It adopts a minimalist style, with only black button eyes and a simple stitched mouth. Its floppy ears naturally cover a part of my body when held in my arms, adding a touch of laziness and mystery to the frames. During the shoot, I kept thinking about how to interact with it—I couldn't hold it too tightly, which would look rigid, nor could I completely ignore it. It needed to become a part of my body language. That's why you'll see me sometimes cradling it against my chest, sometimes bringing its ear close to my cheek, and even using it as a cushion when sitting down. This way, I wasn't just dryly posing in the photos, but 'conversing' with the prop.
The shooting location this time was inside the Hangzhou CP30 venue. The space was actually much more crowded than expected, but the photographer chose angles that avoided the cluttered background as much as possible. For example, in that full-body sitting shot, we specially found a black folding chair in a corner, utilizing the chair back and the yellow-and-black warning lines on the floor to form a diagonal composition. This ensured that even with the blurred crowd in the background, the frame wouldn't look too scattered. The overhead shot was actually an unexpected attempt; I had crouched down to rest for a bit when the photographer suddenly called me to look up at the lens, resulting in that half-body snapshot reaching out my hand. This high-angle shot instead highlighted the focus in my eyes, giving the frame a stronger narrative feel.
The natural light on the convention day was quite unstable, and the overhead ceiling lights inside the hall leaned cold-toned. Therefore, the photographer mainly relied on diffusers and reflectors for fill light to ensure my skin looked bright and natural while preserving the rim light along the edges of my hair strands. My personal favorite is the half-body shot holding the rabbit, because at that moment, a beam of light happened to cast down from the side above, creating a faint golden halo on my cheek and the tips of my hair, looking exceptionally clean.
Lastly, I want to say that a lot of preparations are made in advance every time before bringing a look to life. From wig styling and makeup adherence to the cleaning and maintenance of props, these tedious processes are tiring, but seeing the final photos makes it all feel entirely worth it. The color palette of this look leans elegant and simple without too many flashy colors, relying entirely on the layers of black, white, and grey, as well as the contrasts among textures like lace, metal, and plush to carry the visual impact. I hope everyone enjoys this simplistic style with a touch of vintage fun. I am already looking forward to the next convention!
