[Hiyuki Cosplay] Freezing the Silver-Haired Maiden of Wuthering Waves with a 3D Perspective

This time, I shot a set of 3D photos of Hiyuki from Wuthering Waves. As usual, let me first share some of my thoughts and experiences during the shoot. Because we were trying 3D photography techniques, I made some unconventional choices in camera movement and positioning. I had previously seen related visual works and realized that creating a sense of three-dimensional depth doesn't necessarily rely on expensive glasses-free 3D gear; sometimes, raising or lowering the camera angle combined with post-production perspective correction can equally convey a unique spatial depth on a flat 2D plane.

This set of photos primarily adopted an unconventional supine, lying-down perspective. Unlike the typical standing or sitting poses chosen in most cosplay shoots, this angle of lying completely flat while looking up at the lens creates a totally different sense of elongation for the body lines in the frame. In particular, the long silver-white hair adorned with red tassel accessories fell fluffily across the tatami mat; its natural texture created a striking visual contrast against the red, white, and black palette of the outfit. During shooting, this composition tested our control over focus and depth of field—since the camera was capturing almost vertically downward, the face had to stay in sharp focus while the wooden sliding doors and tatami mat in the background retained a soft blur, keeping the subject front and center.

Let's talk about the details of the makeup and styling. The wig took quite a while to prepare. To recreate the character's original aesthetic in this Silver hair cosplay, if lighting isn't carefully controlled, silver wigs can easily reflect a cheap plastic sheen or turn into an unnatural bluish hue. So on set, I asked the lighting technician to use very soft frontal-side key lighting, allowing the silver hair to maintain its silky texture and natural layers. Paired with the white sleeveless top with black piping, as well as the black fabric and white knotted cords draped around the legs, the overall color composition was restrained yet sophisticated. The black, white, and red tones were evenly distributed across the frame, allowing viewers to immediately grasp the visual focus.

Shooting while lying down actually demands high body control; after all, gravity alters the natural drape of facial muscles. Thus, during the shoot, I had to keep the body in a posture that appeared relaxed yet was actually engaged, while micro-adjusting the angle of my head to preserve a clean jawline and avoid any double chins. Fortunately, in this set of photos, this lazy lying posture successfully conveyed the character's serene and slightly mysterious traits. When gazing directly into the lens with a slightly dreamy, detached look, it felt as though viewers could directly feel that subtle aura through the image.

In a relatively confined indoor setting like a tatami room, creating a fresh, novel feel requires playing with perspectives. This attempt at 3D photography made me rethink the expressive potential of 2D still photography. Creating atmosphere often relies not on how gorgeous an outdoor location is, but on the harmony between light, shadow, color, and the subject's state. I feel this set accomplished its intended effect quite well. Sharing this Hiyuki cosplay from Wuthering Waves is also a way to record another step in my journey of character embodiment and photo post-production in Anime cosplay. Every single detail in the photos, from the strands of the wig to the focus in the eyes, was achieved through repeated refinement. Although I was drenched in sweat after shooting, seeing these final shots with their subtly dreamy ambiance made all the hard work feel completely worthwhile.
