For today's Hiyuki cosplay shoot, I experimented with two completely different visual style settings, capturing photos in two distinct studio sets.
For the first set, a blue-and-white Xianxia ancient style outfit, I especially love that cool, ethereal ambiance. This kind of light-colored clothing heavily tests the texture details. The entire costume utilizes a large amount of semi-transparent chiffon and pearlescent fabrics with a subtle shimmer, paired with a leather buckle and a small silver chain at the waist, creating incredibly rich layers. The wig is a silver-white high updo, matched with light bangs and sideburns, and the hair crown on top has a very strong sense of structure. During the shoot, cool-toned blue and violet lights were used to illuminate my facial contours and the highlighted parts of the costume, making the glitter effect on the clothes pop out. As for the props, that heavy polearm weapon wrapped with white bandages and blue tassels actually has a lot of weight in hand. When shooting this set, I needed to adjust my posture to maintain the majesty of the blade while preserving my own softness, wishing to express a cool, ethereal, and graceful stance of standing independently with a sword.
The second look switches to a red-and-white Japanese style samurai outfit with intense warm-toned contrast. The large area of the vermilion hem forms a powerful visual clash with the white off-the-shoulder top, and with the addition of a black inner strap-buckle and golden accessories, the overall solemnity and sharpness are instantly elevated. To coordinate with this look, I specially adjusted my eye makeup, deepening the red upper and lower eyeliner. The prop is a long samurai sword with a black scabbard and golden patterns. For a natural feel when holding it, I also experimented with different angles for my sitting posture on the tatami wooden chair. The Japanese screen background and the soft glow of big red lanterns create a solemn frame full of narrative tension.
Both looks required an extensive amount of costume wearing and detail adjustments. The joy of Cosplay photography often lies in organic combinations of makeup, wig styling, lighting, and props to reveal the multi-faceted nature of the same character or temperament across different scenes. From the cool aura of the blue Xianxia to the crisp sharpness of the red-and-white Japanese style, this process of changing looks is not only a control over the overall styling but also a new attempt to channel different states of myself. I truly enjoyed the wonderful experience of switching between different styles.
