[Sakiko Toyokawa cosplay] BanG Dream! Ave Mujica (Ave Mujica - The Die is Cast) Dark Melody of Piano Keys and Roses

The theme of this photo set is Sakiko Toyokawa's performance outfit, featuring an overall red-and-black Gothic style paired with bluish-white hair, delivering a cold, haughty oppressive presence. During pre-production, I spent considerable time discussing with the lighting instructor because we wanted to use red roses, an electronic keyboard, and a deep crimson velvet backdrop to build a sense of alienation detached from reality. The costume's texture is fantastic, especially the combination of the lustrous red fabric and the black corset; when wearing it, one must pay close attention to sitting and standing postures to avoid losing the garment's silhouette. To highlight leg lines, I specifically paired the outfit with Black stockings and boots during shooting. Shooting with Black stockings actually requires technique—one must constantly monitor light reflections to prevent skin and hosiery from appearing washed out, leading to repeated adjustments during light metering and posing.

The electronic keyboard on set was the crowning touch. Since I know a bit of keyboard playing, I actually placed my hands on the keys to play during the shoot. While the pieces were not flawless, the chilling, aloof ambiance fostered an exceptional sense of immersion. The lighting instructor taught lighting setups using a Sony A7C2 paired with a 28-200mm zoom lens, which performed steadily in low light to deliver crisp, cinematic imagery. We attempted several classic poses, such as looking back beside the keyboard or pointing forward. Though seemingly simple, holding each pose still for an extended time under the red key light and backlight severely tested physical stamina.

My favorite during the shoot was the photo leaning against the iron cage and roses: curling my legs against the red-and-black backdrop created a vivid contrast between the Black stockings and white skirt trim, which proved to be the most flattering angle for the costume. For the shot on the high-back chair, I deliberately crossed my legs while holding an uniquely shaped goblet, instantly capturing an aloof, imperious attitude. Holding these challenging poses was painful; the heavy garment and tight corset forced me to hold single poses motionless for minutes using core and leg support, leaving me sore afterward.

While the photos look effortless, the shoot was genuine physical labor. Throughout this session, I learned how to use ambient red reflections to enhance skin tones and prevent Black stockings from looking overly harsh under stark contrast. It was a technically rewarding shoot that broadened how I interpret characters. I hope this photo set captures the essence I envisioned. Posing often sparked inspiration amid physical fatigue. Working with moody, low-key lighting tests a cosplayer's silhouette and presence—discovering how to best capture the texture of Black stockings and place fingers naturally on the keyboard came from persistent trial and error.
