For this outdoor shoot, I brought Kazami Yuuka from Touhou Project to life. To faithfully honor her canonical title as the 'Master of the Four Seasons' Flowers,' thoughtful preparation went into both the styling and the location scouting. Sourcing the wig took considerable deliberation; I ultimately settled on this naturally voluminous, vivid emerald-green bob cut with blunt bangs. Paired with crimson cosmetic lenses, it delivers an intensely striking visual impact. The wardrobe features a white lace-trimmed blouse as the foundational inner layer, draped beneath a red tartan pinafore vest dress, where ruffled flounces along the collar and cuffs inject vintage Victorian grace. As for headwear, an arrangement of white blossoms and red satin ribbons was pinned along the right side of the hair, elegantly breaking up the expansive field of bright green.

The location was staged in an expansive field of blooming sunflowers bathed in brilliant sunlight. While such radiant daylight produces stunning imagery, shooting under it poses considerable practical hurdles. High-noon direct sun easily casts unflattering, harsh facial shadows, so we continually searched for side-backlit angles—allowing light to beam in from the side and rear to illuminate the translucent edges of the hair fibers while utilizing reflector bounce to lift facial shadows and preserve a sheer, porcelain complexion. Key props included a lavish bouquet of sunflowers and a white lace parasol. The saturated golden yellow of the sunflowers contrasted vividly against the emerald hair, creating intense chromatic richness. Standing beneath the lace parasol, sunlight filtering through the scalloped cutout patterns painted exquisite chiaroscuro across the scene; however, the parasol carries noticeable heft, and holding it steady with one arm proved to be quite an athletic endurance test.

In terms of posture and expression, the goal was striking a balance between tender warmth and transcendent, aloof poise. When cradling the sunflowers, I relaxed my shoulders, directing either a steady gaze straight into the lens or glancing softly toward the flank with a faint smile. Poses glancing back over the shoulder demanded an engaged core alongside careful alignment of the spine and neck to accentuate posture. Outdoor field shoots inevitably mean contending with sweltering heat and insects, making high-SPF sunscreen and mosquito repellant absolute essentials. Navigating the sunflower field required extreme vigilance—sticking strictly to narrow footpaths to avoid trampling the flora. To capture optimal lighting conditions, we shifted camera setups repeatedly across the fields, patiently waiting for brisk winds to subside to catch natural moments of hair floating in the breeze. From makeup tests and costume prep to executing the final shoot, every single step involved close, continuous dialogue with the team. While field sessions are physically demanding, seeing the rich chiaroscuro and vibrant palette in the final frames made every bit of effort immensely worthwhile.
