This Flandre Scarlet Cosplay fan design styling endured a full two hours in the 40°C heat outdoors. The post description stated that "Anime cosplay is fundamentally defying nature," and those words could not be more accurate. The outdoor thermometer maxed out that day, with blazing sunlight pouring down directly overhead, leaving us to finish this shoot practically wrapped in heatwaves beneath a greenhouse trellis. Yet, I must admit that the costume's intricate complexity and vibrant colors gained an irreproducible sense of clarity and brilliance under the intense natural light that studio shoots simply cannot match.

The design continues the sweet aesthetic common in Touhou Project fan creations. First is the giant flat-topped wide-brim lace hat stacked with faux flowers in multiple shades of white, pink, blue, and purple, paired with white mesh edging that creates strong visual layering under bright light. To recreate the silhouette of the character's twintails, I wore a bright yellow wavy wig; the hair texture was relatively refreshing, but it still couldn't escape the test of 40°C heat, as sweat quickly made the bangs stick to my forehead.

For makeup, I specifically chose reddish-brown contact lenses to complement the character's eye shape. The eye makeup colors echoed the red palette of the outfit, naturally enlarging the eye contours. Blush and lip shades were chosen in lively, energetic tones to balance out the suffocating dullness of the high temperature and keep the overall look bright. However, toward the middle and late stages of the shoot, the base makeup inevitably caked in places, forcing me to touch up with oil-control pressed powder three or four times.

The main body of the outfit is a red-and-white camisole Lolita fashion dress. The upper body features dark crimson fabric as a base with crisscross lacing across the chest, while the shoulders and cuffs showcase dramatic areas of sheer mesh and lace, creating a puff-like volume. The lower skirt is a multi-layered tiered skirt design, with white lace at the base, sheer white mesh and peachy-pink tulle in the middle layers, and a large champagne-colored bow tied at the top.

To add whimsy and atmospheric charm, numerous ornaments were attached to the outfit. For example, a brown plush teddy bear doll was tied to the side of the waist, holding a giant white decorative flower in its arms—plush elements like this instantly maximize a character's playful vibe. The neck accessorizing was equally rich, featuring multiple overlapping pearl necklaces alongside long strands crafted from colorful acrylic beads, large clear beads, and tiny metal chains. Matching colorful beaded bracelets and delicate chains adorned my wrists, reflecting brilliant colors under the sunlight.

The two mirror selfies were actually casual shots taken indoors while preparing or resting. The perspective in the mirror captured the costume's full side profile and the strappy leg details. Though it appears refreshing, the thick lace and tulle are surprisingly sweltering in reality. Furthermore, beneath the outdoor wooden trellis hung many colorful geometric origami ornaments, which added lively pops of color to the composition.

Honestly, a Summer outdoor shoot in extreme heat is a double test of stamina and mental endurance. Finding angles under the wooden trellis was tricky because the sunlight filtering through the wooden slats created uneven light spots, often requiring us to repeatedly fill light or adjust angles to avoid harsh lighting contrasts. Between shooting sessions, I had to dash into air-conditioned spaces to cool down, fearing heatstroke. Yet, it was precisely these harsh outdoor conditions that pushed us to adapt our lighting methods on the fly, yielding natural effects distinct from indoor studio lighting.

Sweating aside, the overall hair, makeup, and final photos matched my understanding of this character's fan design remarkably well. The complexity and color luminosity of the costume produced completely different visual feedback under varying light conditions. From the large hat down to the layered skirt hemlines and leg straps, every component required meticulous styling. Looking through the finished photos, the light and shadow texture was not diminished by the scorching heat at all; instead, it captured a unique summer clarity, making all the hardship feel entirely worth it.
