[Reimu Hakurei Cosplay] Completed an Outdoor Photoshoot of a Touhou Fanon Concept by the Riverbank

The outdoor shoot for this Touhou fanon Reimu Hakurei Cosplay concept was ultimately set at a stream riverbank. The semi-open outdoor environment placed higher demands on makeup, hairstyle, and outfit neatness, but it was precisely this natural light that brought a unique texture to the shot, quite distinct from studio photography in this Outdoor photography endeavor.

This costume design departed from the original classic "red and white shrine maiden dress," opting instead for a modified style featuring a white base paired with light blue floral and plaid patterns. The collar has white pointed lapels, while the outer body extensively utilizes lace and ruffle stitching; the cuffs feature wide ruffled flounce sleeves, presenting an overall light and puffy visual feel. The bow tie at the chest uses spliced ribbons with an orange-yellow background and blue-green patterns, forming a distinct visual focal point against the light-toned main outfit. Paired with white-based lace and buttons, the upper garment's layered depth becomes even sharper. The waist tailoring was not overly cinched, maintaining an appropriate looseness that, combined with the layered tulle skirt below, allowed the skirt and cuffs to produce a natural flowing effect whenever a gentle breeze blew.

For the hairstyle, a deep reddish-brown medium-long straight wig was chosen, with bangs trimmed neatly across. Strands of hair fell along both cheeks; behind the ears, pink flower cluster decorations were specially fixed along with striking bright blue woven tassels. On top of the head, this look features very large blue-and-white plaid lace accessories on both sides—resembling both giant ears and a hood—which, combined with petals and tassels, made the proportions of the upper head stand out even more. To adapt to outdoor wind and movement needs during Outdoor photography, I checked and reinforced the fixation of the wig and headpiece multiple times before filming to ensure no shifting would occur when walking or raising my arms.

The riverbank location consisted of numerous wet, round, and flat pebbles, making the ground quite slippery. To ensure safety and stability of posture in camera shots, I chose to stand on relatively dry rock areas for fixed camera positions. Lighting relied entirely on natural skylight; during the afternoon, reflections off the river surface provided an extra soft fill light effect. When experimenting with selfie angles, I utilized the wide-angle characteristics of the phone lens, adopting a high-angle top-down perspective. This enlarged upper body proportions while beautifully showcasing rich details of the bow tie, buttons, and floral tassels on both sides.

As for pose presentation, in photos where both hands are raised grasping the edges of the headpiece, lifting the arms helped fully spread out the thick flounce sleeves, showcasing the lace patterns on the cuff surface while making the waist-cinching effect more pronounced. Meanwhile, shots taken looking down with the camera pressed low highlighted close-ups of eye makeup and decorations on both cheeks. This conscious switching of angles and shot sizes aimed to showcase my favorite design aspects of this Touhou fanon outfit, such as the orange-blue spliced bow tie and side tassels. The entire shooting process consumed considerable physical energy, requiring constant position adjustments on rocks while maintaining expression control.

For fan-made Touhou fanon settings in Touhou Project, the focus of cosplay is actually expressing one's own understanding of character aesthetics, rather than strictly enforcing 100% adherence to original designs. From outfit design and styling to actually stepping outdoors for filming, this experience allowed me to deeply feel the unique charm an outfit exudes in a fitting environment. Although the skirt hem got slightly splashed by stream water midway, its cool and soft tones harmonized so well with the outdoor atmosphere that it became a pleasant little episode. This stream-side Outdoor photography experience gave me a fresh perspective on the costume's outdoor adaptability. Overall, this photoset authentically records the natural state of that day while preserving the light design charm of the entire fanon look in this Anime cosplay endeavor.
