For this shoot at the CD30 comic convention, I prepared a fan-designed summer concept of Flandre Scarlet from Touhou Project. With the scorching summer heat, I was initially worried that the dense wig and elaborate dress would cause heatstroke, but in order to catch the tail end of summer, I was determined to capture a set brimming with crisp, radiant colors.

The wardrobe is a classic red-and-white dress featuring a deep-crimson bodice adorned with abundant white lace and cascading ruffled frills. The sleeves are crafted from lightweight sheer chiffon layered into billowy tiers, offering generous volume while remaining remarkably breathable. To lean into the playful, quirky aesthetic of this fan-design, I paired the outfit with a wide-brim straw hat trimmed with flowers and heart-shaped sunglasses, worn alongside colorful beaded necklaces and multi-colored charms tied around my wrists and legs. When walking through the convention hall, the layered petticoats beneath the skirt rose and fell with each step, creating a vibrant visual texture. To coordinate with the overall palette, I specifically painted my nails with a shimmering pastel glitter polish.

For this photoshoot, I invited Changsi to take the helm behind the lens. To enrich the composition, we prepped a variety of props: holding a crimson apple was an iconic homage, while behind me stood a curved black frame hung with vibrant, multicolored diamond crystals. We initially tried several standing postures, but to showcase the weightless flare of the skirt, we ultimately favored single-leg lifts and seated compositions. When posing with the apple, the goal was to strike a delicate balance between mischievous cunning and childlike innocence, aligning my gaze with the red cosmetic lenses and pronounced blush makeup.

Posing perched on one leg was quite a test of balance, where the slightest misstep would disrupt core stability. Furthermore, because of the multi-tiered petticoat structure supporting the skirt, sitting down on the carpet required meticulously smoothing the fabrics to avoid crushing the pleats. Wearing strappy platform sandals meant balancing the visual elongation of my leg lines while keeping my ankles firmly grounded during dynamic extensions. To preserve the visual purity of each shot, Changsi carefully steered clear of the cluttered convention background, employing a wide aperture to throw the crowds into soft bokeh while accentuating the subject and vibrant props. In terms of lighting, we harnessed the sporadic natural light filtering into the hall alongside overhead spotlights to sculpt facial dimensionality while preserving the delicate weave of the lace and sheer sleeves.

Wrapping up this shoot felt like distilling the blazing, exuberant colors of summer into each still frame. With every click of the shutter, I could feel that uninhibited vitality inherent to the character's persona. Though convention hall lighting is inherently challenging, fine-tuning angles and catchlights yielded a keeper rate that far exceeded our expectations. Sorting through these saturated, spirited images, I truly feel that this sweltering summer was given its most fitting visual tribute.
