[Flandre Scarlet Cosplay] Fireworks festival Summer Japanese style photoshoot

After finalizing the plan to shoot Touhou Project's Flandre Scarlet attending a Fireworks festival for this Japanese style photoshoot, our early efforts focused primarily on costume design, wig trimming, and prop preparation. This red-and-blue modified kimono offers a striking visual contrast, featuring wave-like flow patterns across the fabric surface and navy ruffled lace trims at the collar and cuffs, giving off a light and cute overall vibe. Because the skirt features a high-low hem that is short in the front and long in the back with side slits, it put movement control to the test during posing, yet perfectly showcased the leg lines.

Matching hair and makeup were adjusted accordingly. The golden curls of the wig flowed naturally, and I chose red colored contacts to echo the primary tone of the outfit. Adding a white fox mask and a red hair ribbon on top lent a playful festival charm. A garter ring with green beads was tied around the thigh, while a red cord with small bells was fastened around the ankle, finished with high-platform wooden geta featuring a black base and red floral knots. Although it looked gorgeous, walking during the shoot was quite a test of balance, requiring extreme care with every step.

On the day of the shoot, we constantly adjusted poses and lighting. We initially tried standing poses—turning slightly, looking back, holding the bag, and leaning forward in a half-crouch—using the small pink floral cloth pouch in hand as an interactive prop, paired with warm reddish summer lighting outdoors to simulate the dusk atmosphere of watching fireworks. Later, I tried sitting cross-legged on the ground, either wearing the fox mask or holding it in hand; this pose was relatively easier to manage and allowed the character's expression to look more relaxed and natural. The last two shots were side-sitting poses, placing a red Japanese paper umbrella behind me while extending both legs forward against a solid background—a composition that visually elongated body proportions and expanded the frame. In post-processing, color grading mainly unified the saturation of red, blue, and gold, removing background distractions while preserving skin translucency to give the overall image richer colors, evoking the festive feel of a summer night festival.

The entire shoot was quite demanding, as the high-platform shoes and skirt hem heavily restricted movement, requiring repeated trials to capture the best angles for details like the thigh ring and geta. However, the resulting photos were thoroughly satisfying. While highlighting the character's iconic traits, this look greatly enriched the visual depth of the Japanese style photoshoot, making it an exceptionally delightful cosplay experience.
