[Yakumo Chen Cosplay] Orange Afternoon Tea Time in a Sunny Courtyard

This outdoor photoshoot chose a teahouse with a traditional Chinese courtyard style. The sunlight spilled through the wooden fences and flower branches, giving the entire environment its own warm and languid filter. To ensure character completeness, I carefully put on all of Yakumo Chen's signature elements—the fluffy black and white tails, the large golden bell, and that patched-pattern ruffled hat. The hat has a wide silhouette, and with the lace edges, it easily casts shadows under bright outdoor light, so I kept an eye on the angle during the shoot to keep the facial lighting as soft as possible while retaining the layering of the lace on top.

For the costume, this red and gold color-schemed vest with a white lace inner top belongs to a relatively bright color palette. The white short skirt has a lot of puffiness; its multi-layered ruffles tend to spread out when sitting down, but this beautifully shapes the hip and waist lines. What I love most are the platform clogs and white lace-trimmed socks on my feet; wearing them visually elongated my calves quite a bit, naturally revealing a sense of extension when paired with a sitting pose, which is why I chose a slightly turned sitting pose in Figures 4 and 5.

Cooperating with the orange cat really tested on-the-spot adaptation. This cat is a regular resident "server" in the courtyard, with a very gentle temperament, but it wouldn't constantly cooperate with poses. In Figures 1 and 2, I tried stroking its chin and forehead with my hand, and it immediately squinted its eyes and purred; that genuine orange cat interaction was much more vivid than a forced pose. In Figure 3, I tried holding it up, and it hung in mid-air like a floppy lump of dough; due to weight and balance issues, my arms had to apply a bit of force, making my shoulders shrug naturally, which allowed the off-the-shoulder cut of the inner top to present a more natural shoulder and neck line. Later, it got sleepy and went back to nap on the straw-woven mat, so I took the opportunity to sit on the edge of the bench, adjusting the angles of my hands and feet so that my head, waist, legs, and tail formed staggered dynamic lines in the frame to avoid looking stiff.

This shoot used a lot of natural light without extra fill lights, so the transitions in the shadow parts are very authentic. I really like the dappled light spots left by the sun shining through the treetops onto the skirt hem and wooden boards in Figure 4, as well as the environmental context under the large depth of field in Figure 6. The hanging paintings and lanterns in the background of the wooden house beautifully bring in the unique tone of Touhou Project, where Japanese style interweaves with fantasy. During the shoot, we kept adjusting the lens focal length, capturing expressions in close-ups and the full-body outfit and action logic in medium shots to ensure every picture showed the character's personality. When organizing the photos, I found that the moments when I wasn't deliberately looking at the camera, but instead looking down to play with the cat or looking up to feel the light, captured the most natural expressions. This state of tranquility and relaxation actually fits Chen's daily atmosphere in this series very well. The entire set of images has no excessive retouching, preserving the skin texture and the fabric grain of the clothes, hoping everyone can feel the coziness of this afternoon through this courtyard photography experiment with this lovely Lolita fashion look.
