[Sparkle cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail: Red and Black Masked Elf

Shooting this Honkai: Star Rail Sparkle cosplay required immense effort during pre-production. From the gradient of the wig to securing the mask, everything required repeated adjustments. The wig used this time was dark long wavy hair with a red gradient at the tips. To tie the twin tails high and naturally perky, I used fine steel wire for internal structure, finishing with generous hairspray to ensure it maintained its shape during the shoot. The mask is the centerpiece of this look; to keep it from slipping, I affixed anti-slip pads to the inside of the mask and adjusted the cord length. However, this also had a downside: wearing it for long periods felt somewhat tight on the head.

In terms of makeup, the red eyeshadow and the small red dot under the eye are the soul of the look. To recreate her lively 2D spirit, I tested several eyeliner techniques, ultimately opting for a slightly winged outer corner paired with purple-red colored contacts, which appeared exceptionally vibrant in camera lenses. I also tried several red lipsticks before settling on one with a subtle sheen to make the lips look plumper. Blending the eyeshadow was equally crucial—gradually transitioning the edges was key to creating that cute, captivating atmosphere.

Regarding the costume, this red-and-gold outfit boasts great texture; the red fabric with gold patterns feels substantial to the touch. The criss-cross strap design across the chest was a bit intricate and strenuous to put on alone, but fit the figure snugly once worn. The golden bell on the choker looks exquisite, jingling softly with every step. The shoulder armor pieces are stiff to maintain their structured shape, but this rigidity slightly restricted shoulder movement during larger poses, requiring frequent angle adjustments to capture flawless side profiles.

The natural light setting of Photo 1 was perfect for showcasing the original appearance of the costume—bright and clear throughout. The red and black lines on the fox mask are vivid, and paired with the red bows and ear accessories, they perfectly resonated with the overall red-and-black palette. To project more defined lines in front of the lens, I tilted my body slightly sideways, shifting my weight to one side.

Photo 2, on the other hand, utilized special red lighting that instantly transformed the entire atmosphere, creating a mysterious sense of the character suddenly shifting masks, forming a sharp contrast with the brightness of Photo 1. This contrasting dynamic is fascinating. Under the red light, eye features and mask contours blurred slightly, instead emphasizing overall demeanor and movement with an eerie, seductive charm. When shooting this red-light set, I actually couldn't see my surroundings clearly at all, communicating with the lens purely by intuition.

Throughout the shoot, I continuously adjusted my poses—such as resting my chin on my hands or looking straight into the camera—striving to convey the character's sly cunning and lively energy. The shoulder armor and strap designs required careful angle awareness during movement to avoid exposing costume flaws. I repeatedly checked the placement of the sash belt and ornaments to ensure they never looked cumbersome.

This attempt aimed to combine the multifaceted personality of the character—encompassing both the sweetness and innocence shown in the first look, as well as the elusive unpredictability lurking behind the red lighting in the second. This duality is what fascinated me most when shooting this styling. In post-retouching, I also strived to preserve natural skin texture, believing it brings out a more authentic cosplay look.
