For this Seiga Kaku cosplay shoot, we selected a classical Traditional Chinese style studio set; the plum blossom folding screen and wooden daybed in the background complemented the character's essence from Touhou Shinreibyō ~ Ten Desires. beautifully.

The wardrobe was carefully curated, blending Eastern and Western vintage layering—delicate lace frills at the chest, a cinched corset waist, paired with strapped socks and red cords around the ankles for a striking visual punch in this dark Stockings cosplay aesthetic.

On September 15, 2024, I spent considerable time syncing with photographer Heli Xieyang, primarily to capture the fleeting dispersion of smoke. As the cosplayer Tiancai Lili, to channel her serene, aloof divine presence, I deliberately slowed my breathing and every movement, working in tandem with the low-key rim lighting. The long kiseru pipe prop was surprisingly heavy; holding it aloft while pacing the release of smoke to create a luminous Tyndall effect under the beam required immense patience.

Crafting a shoot with such rich Oriental mystique involved extensive pre-production: styling the blue pinned-up hair, fastening metallic floral ornaments, and applying matte base makeup with intensified eye styling to evoke a subtly enigmatic gaze before the lens.

With her origins rooted in Touhou Shinreibyō ~ Ten Desires., Seiga embodies a transcendent, effortless languor. Keeping my gaze slightly drifting and head tilted gently upward prevented poses from feeling rigid. Because the studio was dimly lit, I maintained a steady seated posture to ensure the red cord at my ankle remained visible rather than lost in shadow—these fine details tied the theme together.

Working with the smoke was both the crowning highlight and biggest challenge: exhaling too heavily produced thick white clouds obscuring my face, while exhaling too lightly lacked airy fluidity. After dozens of attempts, we finally captured that delicate, translucent ribbon of smoke curling above my head.

Post-processing light and shadow grading preserved the raw image textures without over-editing, aiming to recreate the atmospheric solitude of quietly watching drifting embers in a shadowy chamber. This immersive Cosplay photography session was not merely about donning the costume, but synthesizing gaze, posture, and ambiance to personify this mystical character. Before the camera, I continually explored varied angles to best display the lace textures and subtle hair gradient. By the end, my facial muscles were stiff from posing, but seeing the final imagery brought pure joy.
