[Suzuran Cosplay] Arknights Spring Project, The Large-Tailed Operator Under the Cherry Blossom Trees

Just as the photographer joked on WeChat Moments, why is the new operator carrying a basket of big radishes? Although it looks cute, this tail was truly customized with a massive budget. To pursue that fluffy and distinctively layered effect in the game illustration, a custom lightweight bone-structure bracket was used inside the tail, and the outer layer was covered with faux fur of varying textures. The white fluff at the tip of the tail was especially carefully selected. The entire tail turned out very accurate, but it also takes up a lot of space. During the shoot, I frequently had to dodge this huge tail, moving around to avoid blocking my body or arms.

The costume part opted for a classic mint green dress paired with a cream-white top. The fabric selection for this outfit is very important; it needs to ensure a lightweight appearance in the outdoor flowers while having a certain thickness to support the curve of the skirt hem. The small red tie at the collar is a finishing touch, neutralizing the monotony of the large areas of light colors. For the hair, a light milky-gold high-temperature fiber wig was used, paired with straight bangs and slightly curled sideburns. The animal ears on both sides were supported quite stably, and it didn't feel tiring after wearing them for a full day of shooting. The small doll accessory on top of the head and the lace headband were specially color-matched to remain highly consistent with the original game skin's palette.

The location for this shoot was chosen beautifully, right in a blooming forest of tall cherry blossom trees. The branches were packed with white sakura and pink buds, which, paired with the blue sky and asphalt road, carried a rich spring atmosphere. During the shoot, the photographer specifically chose a time around three or four o'clock in the afternoon to shoot side-backlighting while the sun was still relatively high. In the first few photos, quite obvious lens flare halos can be seen. Although this processing sacrificed a tiny bit of highlight details in the frame, it created a highly dreamlike, ethereal feel. The temperature on the day of the shoot had already warmed up, and when the sunlight streamed onto my body through the scattered flowers and rooftops, it felt warm all over. This kind of healing feel brought by natural light and shadow is indeed very difficult to achieve through pure studio photography.

In terms of composition, the photographer cleverly utilized surrounding environmental elements. For instance, at the wooden railing spot, the thick logs horizontal at the bottom of the frame, combined with the blue-tiled white-walled buildings in the background, created a blend of classical and pastoral elements. As I sat on the wooden railing holding a small bamboo basket filled with wild flowers, or hopped along the path, we strove to capture that lively yet well-behaved trait in this character's setting. We specially looked for angles between the road and bushes to make the background cherry blossom trees look sufficiently towering and dense. The use of backlighting made the edges of the wig, the fluffy tail, and even the skirt's lace become translucent, and this rim light greatly enhanced the Anime-style photography vibe of the frame.

Great effort also went into the makeup this time. To make the entire makeup look more in line with the character's translucent feel, the base makeup was applied very cleanly and lightly. The colored contacts were chosen in a gray-blue style, which, paired with eyeliner that slightly elongated the eye shape, made the gaze look both gentle and full of spirit. As the light hit my face, complemented by a light peach-colored blush, it created a perfect color harmony with the sakura background. Although the wind occasionally blew flower petals and broken grass from the ground in front of the lens during the shoot, it also captured many moments with a touch of natural wind dynamic, rather than rigid static poses.

Overall, the results of this shoot left us quite satisfied. Whether it was the recreation level of the props or the capture of light during the outdoor shoot, it achieved our expectations. Although the preparation for this styling was complex—especially the huge tail that was often teased as looking like carrying a basket of big radishes—being able to perfectly present it in this spring-scented sakura season and carefully design every action detail brought a sense of accomplishment that is hard to describe simply in words. I also hope this spring breath can be transmitted to the eyes of everyone who likes her through this set of photos.
