A modified black-and-white maid dress, a cross shield brooch adorning the chest, paired with silver-white long straight hair and blunt bangs—this was the cosplay styling I prepared for HK416 from Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium.
The costume is packed with rich details, where expansive black fabric contrasts boldly with white ruffles. What pleased me most were the gold and holographic reflective stripes along the sleeves; under the overhead lighting at the Bilibili World venue, they reflected gorgeous tones that lent the character a dimensional, futuristic tech vibe. The neckline incorporates a high collar with a cutout design, capturing HK416's sharp, cool persona from the original art while infusing a subtle touch of allure. To faithfully recreate the character, I wore bright green contact lenses and emphasized red blending in the eye makeup—especially that red teardrop marking beneath the left eye, which serves as the soul of the look. Slightly tilting my cheek was all it took to reveal the character's signature blend of fierceness and playfulness before the lens, complete with sleek White stockings finishing the silhouette.
Temperatures ran high on the convention day, making wearing this multi-layered ensemble a true test of stamina—particularly when managing the wig. Long, straight silver-white hair easily tangles or flies about in crowds, so while waiting between shoots I constantly smoothed the strands with wig care spray and a wide-tooth comb to ensure a silky finish on camera. Small white cross clips were secured on the side of the wig, harmonizing with the black-and-gold headband across the crown to bring the 2D aesthetic into reality.
The on-site background decor matched this gear flawlessly. Red STOP signs, glowing neon signboards, playful road signs featuring cat paws, and industrial props like tires formed a fantastic retro street-style photo spot. I tailored different poses to the surroundings—such as standing profile with crossed arms, lightly lifting both sides of the skirt hem, or resting my right index finger beneath my chin to display diverse character facets. Whenever a photographer raised a camera, I regulated my breathing, tightened my core to align my posture with the garment's tailoring, and held a confident smile.
Having cosplayed for many years, I place great value on the completeness of every photoshoot release. From ironing fabrics and checking props to communicating with photographers, every detail shapes the final presentation. Meeting fellow Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium enthusiasts at Bilibili World and exchanging thoughts on HK416 created an atmosphere that online interactions simply cannot match. Though my feet ached after a full day and the wig left my scalp numb, seeing the captures on the camera screen made every bit of effort worthwhile. I hope this blend of coolness and cuteness beneath the black-and-white maid uniform translates seamlessly through the lens.
