[Castorice cosplay] White Moon of Omphalos: Full Styling on the Eve of the Collaboration

As soon as the collaboration news was announced, Castorice on the billboard gained immense popularity. Taking advantage of this moment, I brought out the gear I had been preparing for a while to shoot a complete set of photos. Cosplaying Castorice puts the cleanliness and distinct color blocking of the white-and-purple palette to the ultimate test. This outfit features extensive asymmetrical tailoring; to keep the cutout waist straps looking natural, transparent anti-slip securing bands were used inside, while the fluffy outer skirt hem and flowing ribbons underwent heavy structural setting beforehand so the silhouette wouldn't collapse when standing or walking in the studio.

The prop is the soul of this photoshoot—the visual weight of the glowing scythe had to hold the entire scene at first glance. The blade is crafted from translucent acrylic, embedded with color-changing LED strips inside. Shooting luminous props heavily tests lighting control, ensuring it doesn't compete with facial illumination. Therefore, during the shoot, we used a diffused modifier with directional control for the face and calibrated the scythe's color temperature to a cooler purple-white, achieving a unified cool palette with the blue reflections in my eyes.

This series actually captured several different emotional expressions. In the two shots holding flowers, the bouquet was specially curated with cool tones of blue, purple, and pink, resonating with my hair color and the purple in the costume. For the seated set, the focus was placed on open, relaxed body posture—without crumpling the skirt, allowing the lines formed by the White stockings straps and high heels to visually elongate the legs. With my knees resting right at the front edge of the stool, my back leaning slightly against it, and the scythe resting on the floor, the overall visual center of gravity remained very grounded.

Several angles during the shoot are worth highlighting: the over-the-shoulder looking-back shot used a corner of the prop as foreground blur, perfectly capturing the facial expression and flowing hair strands. That breeze was manually fanned by the photographer to give the hair an organic, untamed flow rather than looking too tidy, simulating the dynamic movement of the character in a distinctive environment.

In post-processing, we avoided exaggerated heavy retouching, mainly introducing subtle warm-and-cool contrast in the transition areas between shadows and highlights, while deepening the dark tones of the black thorny crown and petal edges on the headpiece to prevent them from blurring into the white base. The skin tone was leaned toward a cool porcelain white, matching the character's ethereal yet detached demeanor.

The outfit itself exhibits fantastic layering in motion, and the patchwork of white and purple truly tests a tailor's craftsmanship; I was quite satisfied with how the final photos turned out. Seeing the enthusiasm of fellow fans in the Honkai: Star Rail community during the collaboration period, being able to materialize a beloved character and present it through high-quality Anime-style photography was my greatest motivation. After finishing with this wardrobe and prop setup, my arm holding the massive scythe was sore for two days, but seeing how the overall grayish-purple tone harmonized with the serenity of Omphalos made everything feel completely worthwhile. The lighting adjustments during the shoot were meticulously executed, and the purple luminous ambiance ultimately brought out the character's mysterious elegance to perfection.
