For this outdoor photoshoot outside the Hatsumono Anime Convention, we truly pushed the golden twilight lighting to its absolute limit. In this Christmas Ganyu convention shoot, we captured the most exquisite side-backlighting right by the roadside. The crimson cape showed off gorgeous tactile texture bathed in the sunset glow, with its white vertical striping and plush fleece collar trim appearing remarkably soft under the illumination. The ensemble centers around a vibrant red-and-white color palette, complemented by blue-and-white argyle check paneling along the cuffs and long purple gloves. This rich color saturation popped magnificently against the outdoor roadside greenery and open pavement. The cropped red cape gracefully framed the neck and shoulder lines, while the high-waisted mini skirt visually elevated the waistline to lengthen my overall body proportions.
To honor the thematic festive mood, the hairstyle retained her iconic light-blue cascading locks, topped with custom red antler hair accessories and fluffy pom-poms that not only injected adorable charm, but also focused visual attention squarely around the face. For makeup, I deliberately intensified the eye look with rich reddish-brown gradients blended along the outer eye corners, paired with a classic ruby red lip glaze to brighten my complexion in cool ambient lighting while lending my gaze deeper allure. Delicate garment nuances like the skirt's scalloped zigzag hemline and dangling white pompoms created fantastic dynamic movement in motion.
In choreographing the poses, the irregular hemline of the skirt lent itself beautifully to motion—allowing its drape and airy flow to flourish whenever I walked or lifted one leg. In the profile look-back pose with a raised leg, for instance, I anchored my weight onto one leg while bending and lifting the other slightly. This posture not only elongated leg contours naturally, but also allowed the sheer Black stockings to reveal a delicate sheen under the specular highlights. The chunky black platform Mary Janes added height while making the lower body proportions appear remarkably slender. During the shoot, the photographer encouraged me to relax my body fully, using subtle torso twists to express organic curvature while keeping arm gestures open and fluid rather than cramped.
When shooting outside convention halls with similar Black stockings and mini skirt pairings, you can actively leverage body contours—such as leaning slightly forward or glancing back over the shoulder while using hand gestures to guide the viewer's gaze. If facing the camera head-on feels stiff, try looking off to the side or playfully toying with accessories on your outfit. Though this Christmas Ganyu attire looks intricate, it was surprisingly lightweight and agile to wear, making it ideal for walking-and-shooting outside the venue. The location choice was equally well-considered: crosswalks and roadside green belts offered splendid compositional depth, paired with the warm golden evening sunlight. Minor post-processing tweaks to highlights and shadows easily coaxed out this vintage cinematic film tone. Garment textures came across vividly under natural light—the plush fleece feel and the sheen of the stockings achieved exactly what we envisioned. Running around the convention all day was exhausting, but seeing the final edits made every bit of effort worth it. I hope this offers some creative inspiration for your next outdoor convention shoots!
