[Sandrone Cosplay] Teyvat Convention Photo Records with Columbina

We managed to capture a thoroughly satisfying Genshin Impact convention photo set right at the expo venue. This time, we cosplayed Sandrone and Columbina from Genshin Impact. Preparing both outfits took quite a long time. Sandrone's costume is packed with complex details, especially the metallic accents and headwear; to capture that fusion of machinery and marionette, I commissioned a prop master to custom-make the headpiece, carefully sanding and painting every white feather and golden motif to avoid harsh glare under strong lighting and preserve a matte finish. Columbina's wig also went through repeated adjustments, from delicate trimming to gradient dyeing, striving to project an aura both enigmatic and fragile on camera. Choosing that black-to-pink gradient was very particular—it had to be subtle and refined so as not to look gaudy.

My partner and I shared incredible chemistry. We found a relatively quiet corner in the hall, using the available ambient lights and reflective flooring to complete this Columbina x Sandrone cosplay shoot. Because the background was cluttered, the photographer opened up the aperture to melt away distractions and isolate us as the main subjects. In the frame where I close my eyes leaning against my partner's embrace while she gazes down at me, the composition heavily relies on nuanced emotion; pushing too hard would have looked forced. We tried several times, adjusting shoulder heights and the angle of our heads until capturing that naturally emotive moment. In candid convention captures, gaze and body language carry the narrative weight—no exaggerated expressions were needed, as the quiet, serene stillness best captured both characters' personas.

Handling light and shadow is pivotal for convention photos. Overhead hall lights can often be unflattering, casting harsh shadows across the face, which meant constantly adjusting our positioning, seeking clean key light, or utilizing bounce boards. Today's overall color tone leans cool, yet the natural texture of the skin was kept intact. For makeup, matching the character's essence meant emphasizing under-eye blush over a clean, luminous base, finished with a soft dusty-rose lip and fine shimmers on the eyelids to deepen the gaze. My partner's eye makeup focused on sculpting contours to enhance the contrast against her black-and-pink gradient hair.

Every time I cosplay from Genshin Impact, I meet so many fellow fans. Gathering together to exchange costume crafting tips, makeup techniques, and lore discussions creates an incredible atmosphere. While walking around the hall all day wrapped in heavy layers and balancing on heels was exhausting, seeing the final photos made every drop of effort worthwhile. Portraying characters goes far beyond just putting on the garments—it's about embodying their stories and souls. Sandrone's composed presence and Columbina's gentleness were frozen together before the lens, becoming a cherished memory for both of us. During prep, I repeatedly reviewed official character art and cutscenes, analyzing their stances and micro-expressions to infuse those nuances into our on-site performance. Whether on stage or interacting off-camera, every gesture was a tribute to the characters. No matter where we are, we'll always be friends, right? That is the heart of what this photo set aims to express.
