During Liyue's Lantern Rite or the nights at Yuehai Pavilion, Ganyu's figure always carries a cool, crisp blue tone. This time, attempting to recreate this visual sensation of interwoven ice and rain, I truly put a lot of thought into the hair, makeup, and costume.
The layering of the wig is the first step in restoring the character. This time, I specially selected this light grayish-blue with a fluffy, airy feel, and the direction of every single hair strand was styled and set, especially the sideburns on both sides. Paired with that pair of pitch-black short horns on top of the head—securing these horns took a massive effort; we had to ensure their height, make them fit the wig seamlessly, and avoid any plastic-like look.
The scene for this shoot was chosen against a pure white background, paired with multi-layered tulle skirt hems. The detached outer sleeves and the lace neck ring ornament present a texture akin to gentle water ripples under the soft illumination. During the shoot, I kept thinking that since it's about "dancing," we must capture that weightless lightness of the garment.
Many people think Ganyu is just a serious workaholic, but in my eyes, she possesses a touch of a divine beast's laziness and a gentleness beneath her cool exterior. Therefore, I chose several poses with a strong sense of interaction. When raising my hand, I intentionally let the large sleeves spread out to simulate the feeling of the wind blowing; and the moment I extended my hand, my gaze needed to carry that intimacy of looking at you, as if asking, "Would you like a cup of clear tea?"
A pure white backdrop brings both benefits and challenges to Cosplay photography. The benefit is that once the lighting and angles are found right, the character's skin tone and the clothing colors become extremely clean and translucent. The challenge is that if the facial expression is even slightly stiff, the entire frame easily looks dull. Therefore, during shooting breaks, I kept adjusting my breathing, trying to find that balance of Ganyu being detached from worldly affairs yet still bustling about for humanity.
In terms of costume details, the corset structure on the chest features a texture print similar to parchment, paired with dark purple thin shoulder straps, which has a classical charm without appearing too heavy. For makeup, a rather tender pink lip color was chosen, combined with the two tiny black markings under the eyes to restore the character's divine traits. Compared to heavy contouring, I prefer using highlighter to brighten the face, making the skin look as translucent as a peeled egg.
Sharing a little interlude from the shoot: if the movements were too large, the wig easily got messy, and the lace neck ring would choke a bit, making the neck feel itchy. But the moment I saw the final photos, all the hard work felt completely worth it. The soul of this set lies in that cool yet gentle "ethereal aura." I hope the presented effect can break some people's stereotype of cosplay as merely "putting on clothes and striking a few poses." A good cosplay requires not just physical resemblance, but also the integration of demeanor. Whether it's raising a hand and looking back, or extending a hand pretending to touch the screen, it's all an attempt to endow the flat image of an Anime girl with a touch of vivid life.
