The inspiration for this series struck while tidying my bookcase and stumbling upon an old test prep workbook; a sudden urge hit me to recreate the authentic, unfiltered state of studying at home during high school. To fit this campus mood, I pulled out this classic blue-and-white athletic school tracksuit jacket and loose pants. Compared to crisp sailor uniforms, these slightly oversized tracksuits hold far more genuine adolescent memories for domestic students. Makeup was kept minimalist, focusing on a dewy, translucent base and subtle natural lips, crowned with thick black-framed spectacles to instantly channel the aura of a dedicated, late-night crammer. For hair, I styled twintails with blunt bangs, intentionally leaving soft wisps around the temples to evoke cozy, at-home authenticity.

For the setting, I chose a room laid with tatami mats and woven rugs. Behind me, an old-school CRT television perched atop a low wooden bookshelf next to an acoustic guitar leaned haphazardly against the corner, complete with scattered plushies and a giant white goose pillow on the sofa, crafting a lived-in student bedroom steeped in retro nostalgia. The low study table served as the central stage, strewn with open textbooks, spiral notebooks, and gel pens arrayed in messy student habits. That blue-covered prep book instantly dragged anyone back into the suffocating nostalgia of endless test drills. For illumination, I simulated warm, diffused morning window light filtering through sheer white curtains, wrapping the space in a comforting, breathable domestic glow.

When choreographing gestures and emotional beats, I framed distinct slices of student life. The first shot captures that serene lull after wrapping weekend homework—sitting cross-legged, staring blankly into space with hands resting lazily against the table edge, a panda plushie by my feet, totally relaxed. The second depicts the sheer madness of exam panic: arms flung up, mouth slightly agape, complemented by the quirky detail of gripping a pen between my toes—an impromptu comedic touch born when my legs grew numb on the mat. The third frame embodies total cognitive burnout: clutching the blue exercise book to my chest, legs stretched out forward, staring ahead with a drained, lifeless gaze. For the fourth, I peeled off my white crew socks to sit barefoot cross-legged on the floor, balancing an open workbook overhead like a makeshift sunshade with bare feet foregrounded in frame—expressing surrender and lazy defiance while injecting raw, candid skin texture into the bedroom setting.

The entire shoot felt less like checking off a cosplay checklist and more like reliving the bittersweet intensity of youth. While the styling is modest and completely free of flashy visual effects, low-angle framing with foreground desk clutter brought dimensional depth to the compositions. The Gaokao younger sister isn't a single person, but a collective portrait—symbolizing resilient vitality under immense academic pressure, occasionally slacking off yet ultimately persevering. I hope these frames remind everyone of their own eighteen-year-old self, sitting hunched over a study desk, striving fiercely for a dream.
