[Columbina Cosplay] Genshin Impact: White Veil and Moonlight, How to Present This Ethereal Feeling

When shooting this Columbina Cosplay, the most challenging part was actually how to restore that light yet slightly mysterious aura. The costume's white veil and blue dress feature many layers of tulle. To ensure that every layer of fabric presented a natural drape texture in front of the lens, I used a garment steamer to carefully iron all the tulle twice in advance. The straps on my arms weren't wrapped randomly either; I referenced the artwork's crisscross yet unconstricted relaxed feel, adjusting the wrapping method about five or six times before finding an angle that held securely without making my arms look bulky. The metal ring with vine decorations atop my head is a particularly exquisite small prop; it's very light, but securing it required hiding it inside the wig with concealed clips. Fearing it might tilt during the shoot, I specifically padded it with silicone gaskets inside.

As for the makeup, to fit the character's facial features around the eyes, I tried two different eyeliner styles and ultimately chose a version with subtle red smudging beneath the eyes. Paired with my original black hair and red-tipped gradient, it created a nice visual warm-and-cold contrast under cool white lighting. The red at the ends of my hair was temporarily highlighted on the morning of the shoot using washable hair wax, which doesn't damage the hair and allowed for quick micro-adjustments based on ambient lighting colors. The glowing orb held in my hands was a DIY light prop. To make it appear as though floating above my palm, I attached a clear acrylic sheet to the bottom of the light orb and hid the connection wire with the side of my fingers. During the actual shoot, the gaffer kept the main key light very soft, allowing my face to be illuminated precisely by the fill light from the glowing orb, forming very natural catchlights in my eyes.

For the scene setup, we used a vast amount of white artificial flowers and translucent white silk, supplemented by a giant curved glowing backdrop panel, controlling the overall color scheme between cool white and soft blue. On-site, I discussed composition with the photographer for a bit. Because there was a massive white feather-like decoration behind me, taking too much of the back view would make the picture look overly bulky without a focus. Therefore, we adopted a semi-side sitting posture, which showcased the wing layers while allowing the gold emblem on my chest and the strap details to enter the frame. During shooting, I needed to keep my arms raised continuously for about ten minutes; my arms grew sore and trembled slightly mid-way, but I held on to capture the moment when the light was softest.

Honestly, every time I do this kind of dreamy photography style cosplay, what tests me most isn't prop delicacy, but how to use my expression to convey that ethereal outfit feeling that is both airy and slightly distant. I dislike deliberately mimicking overly exaggerated anime expressions; instead, I prefer using relaxed eyes and a subtly upturned mouth corner to present it. During the shoot, the photographer mentioned that my gaze direction formed a leading line with the glowing orb in my hand, giving the image a sense of movement. I personally love this selected photo best because it blends the translucency of the veil, the hardness of the metal, and the tech vibe of the glowing element together without excessive editing, retaining real skin texture and fabric folds—which is what Cosplay photography vitality should truly be.

Regarding post-processing for this outfit, I insisted on retaining the subtle frayed edges of the white veil, as that imperfect naturalness actually enhances realism. Furthermore, to match the watercolor-rendered art style of Genshin Impact, I lowered the cold color saturation in post, making the white veil and blue dress combination look more translucent. If given the opportunity later, I'd love to try another set under natural outdoor light, which might showcase a completely different, warm texture. In short, this set took two days from prep to shoot, and ultimately uniting the character's serenity with the scene's dreaminess makes it all feel completely worth it.
