This time, I shot this set of Xiangling photos in LA Chinatown. Since I only started getting into cosplay after moving to the US, I had to slowly figure out a lot of the gear, props, and makeup techniques all on my own. Without the convenience of offline prop shops and specialized makeup artists like back in China, everything from trimming wigs to sewing accessories has to be done by myself for every outfit. This Xiangling costume has quite a lot of details, especially the little bear bell at the waist and the red string on the leg; I repeatedly adjusted them several times when making them myself to achieve a fairly accurate look. The LA sun was very strong on the day of the shoot, creating sharp light that perfectly made the black-and-gold color scheme and yellow skirt hem look exceptionally bright. Paired with those iconic red pillars and lantern buildings in Chinatown, it really felt a bit like strolling through Liyue Harbor. As an overseas cosplayer, my biggest realization is that even if the environment is different and resources are limited, as long as you have enough passion, you can still find the perfect corner, light, and shadow to present the character you love. This time, I used some relatively natural and casual standing poses without intentionally striking exaggerated movements, aiming to reflect Xiangling's daily lively yet slightly confident personality. I hope the final result allows everyone to feel the character's down-to-earth vitality and youthful spirit.
