[Arlecchino Cosplay] The Strictest Father of the House of the Hearth, Scrutiny Under the Red Velvet

The strictest father of the House of the Hearth—this identity tag had been deeply revolving in my mind for a long time as I prepared for this Arlecchino cosplay. For a cosplayer like me who is used to capturing different temperaments in front of the lens, recreating this Fatui Harbinger is not simply about putting on a gorgeous outfit, but more about projecting an aura and mirroring a section of the character's core.

Let's talk about the hair, makeup, and styling design this time first. To match Arlecchino's ultimate sense of cold severity, I deliberately lowered the arches of my eyebrows and enhanced the dimensional contour of my facial structure in the makeup. Especially for the eye makeup, I used a grayish-black smoky blending to make the gaze look sharper and deeper. I started managing the short hair wig many days in advance; the white base and black highlights are beautifully staggered, and the curve of the bangs underwent several versions of adjustment, ultimately presenting a styling effect that oozes sharpness even without any wind blowing. This seemingly casual short hair heavily tests the wig's texture during actual shooting; if the hair strands look overly flat or messy, it will ruin the character's composure and dominance.

In terms of clothing, this white-and-black color-blocked slim-fit coat and trousers are highly recognizable. The coat's tailoring is exceptionally rigid, particularly with that exaggerated high stand-up collar and tough shoulder pad design, beautifully propping up the character's commanding presence as a superior. The jagged borders and complex strap structures at the cuffs add plenty of detailed highlights, and the black and white patchwork long streamers draping from both sides of the waist and back increase the sense of stability when standing still, while bringing a highly powerful dynamic visual effect when walking or posing. The material of the pants was selected as a matte black fabric that, paired with the shoes, maintains crisp lines while staying true to the intense contrast among the three main colors of red, white, and black. When preparing this Arlecchino cosplay, I also paid special attention to the fabric patchwork of the costume, as this classic color scheme of black, white, plus a touch of red embellishment perfectly aligns with the character design aesthetics of Genshin Impact.

For this shoot, I selected a highly minimalist studio backdrop. We intentionally found a pure red background, devoid of redundant props and complex lighting traps. Why choose a red base? Because the background story of the character Arlecchino contains highly intense contradictions and tensions, and a red background happens to act as the perfect visual carrier for this emotion. When communicating with the photographer, we decided to adopt a beam of hard light coming down slightly from the top, which projects a clean shadow with rigid edges at my feet. This high-contrast light and shadow effect, combined with the solid-colored environment, maximizes the visual focus on my personal expression and costume details. When looking straight at the lens, I would intentionally adjust my breathing and physique, lowering my shoulders and keeping my posture upright, tightening my core to let my hands present a relaxed yet ready-to-exert-force stance in front of my waist. This is actually a part of the cosplay performance, where movements and micro-expressions function as extensions of the character setting.

Regarding the understanding of the character, as a Fatui Harbinger, Arlecchino carries a complex sense of responsibility inside her. That 'fatherly' strictness is not a superficial fierceness, but a state where cold indifference and protection coexist after undergoing the sediment of worldly experiences. Therefore, during the shooting process, I didn't deliberately execute too many exaggerated movements or fierce expressions, but rather adopted minor body language and a highly piercing gaze to communicate as much as possible. Being cold, sharp, and self-contained, and using the gaze to tell stories often holds more deterrent power than grinning or frowning.

During post-processing, we tried our best to preserve the raw texture of the photos, simply enhancing the color contrast among red, black, and white to make the entire frame cleaner. High-quality cosplay works often don't rely on how flashy the post-processing special effects are, but lie in the control over details during preparation, the transmission of emotion during shooting, and the ultimate character recreation accuracy. Being able to present a character with such a unique temperament as Arlecchino to everyone this time is not only about completing a shoot, but functions as a tribute from an enthusiast toward the character crafting of Genshin Impact. Having shot the entire session, what I felt most deeply was the difficulty of projecting a character's inner aura through the exterior look, and I hope this set of photos allows people to see Arlecchino's traits as well as the blood and sweat we poured into this cosplay.
