This time I cosplayed Klee from Genshin Impact. Before the shoot, I had been searching for an outdoor location that could match her lively personality and red-and-white color scheme, and finally chose this corner of an outdoor park with a giant cat sculpture.
This red-and-white color-blocked knit cardigan I'm wearing is the core of this look. The white sweater weave is very delicate, and paired with the red-edged flower-shaped decorations at the cuffs and hem, it looks fluffy overall, carrying its own healing and warm feeling. The small animal print on the pocket is very tiny and exquisite, serving as the cute detail of the entire outfit. There is also an exclusive red-and-white badge and a plush edge on the hat, which creates a strong sense of connection with the character when worn. For the lower half, I chose high-waisted red lace-trimmed shorts, paired with matching calf-length socks and platform white buckle shoes, which visually elongates the leg proportions while appearing clean and crisp.
The setup of the shooting environment was a huge plus; the giant smiling cat sculpture and colorful striped balls in the venue carry a strong sense of a fairytale by themselves, very much in the style of Alice in Wonderland. Next to it was a blank speech bubble prop. During the shoot, I picked it up to interact, making small gestures like pointing at my face, waving, and lightly clenching my fist, adding a sense of narrative to the frame, as if a cartoon character had truly entered the real world.
Regarding the lighting, the photographer intentionally chose backlit and side-backlit shooting techniques this time. Although the intersection of the pink flower branches overhead and the light brought very intense lens flare, the dreamy light and shadow created was unexpectedly wonderful. This warm-toned light penetrates the knit clothing, casting a halo on the hat, instantly making the texture of the originally everyday outfit look three-dimensional. The process of the outdoor cosplay photography shoot was extremely relaxing; there was no need for rigid posing. Instead, I naturally squatted, sat, and stretched on the grass and steps, capturing moments full of vividness.
To fit the lively traits of the character Klee, I deliberately kept my expressions agile during the shoot, incorporating more eye contact and subtle emotional shifts. Although my legs inevitably got pricked by the grass while sitting in the scene, to present the best visual effect, this tiny price was completely worth it. Klee in Genshin Impact is always full of energy, so dropping all burdens in front of the lens to genuinely interact with the props, sculptures, and surrounding environment in the scene is what keeps this set from looking stiff, presenting a lightweight and cute everyday style.
Whether it was the half-body close-up at the beginning or the final full-body shot in front of the cat sculpture, this red-and-white combination blended perfectly with the background's green grass, tree bark, and colorful stripes, without being overly jarring while instantly grabbing the visual center of attention. After shooting this set, I felt even more that this type of outdoor cosplay photography featuring a fairytale style outfit actually makes it easier to achieve great results than complex and heavy gear, because the movements are freer and expressions can be more relaxed.
