Haven't retouched any new photos lately, so I dug up this backlog set shot previously with @然也非也. When we first saw this vintage staircase accompanied by that massive framed sunflower painting, we instantly knew it was an ideal match for Columbina and Sandrone. The setting featured dark wooden cabinetry, cross-paned windows, and warm amber lighting, creating an overall atmosphere that felt remarkably fitting.
While shooting this set, we poured considerable effort into our wardrobe. Sandrone's ensemble is a blue-and-white dress adorned with metallic accents and gemstone embellishments across the chest and waist, paired with a black, white, and red twin-tail wig finished with white cross-straps and wing-shaped hair accessories—packed with intricate details. My Columbina look is predominantly themed around black and gold; the soft bonnet atop my head, patterned with dark red filigree and black ribbon bows, was secured with several bobby pins to ensure it wouldn't slip during the shoot. The expansive, off-the-shoulder black-and-gold sleeves featured metallic framing and striking ruby accents; though somewhat cumbersome to move in, they lent incredible tactile richness to every movement.
For the pose in Photo 2 where I embrace her, we adjusted the angles multiple times. Because my sleeves were so voluminous, they could easily obscure her face or disrupt the clean silhouette of her outfit. We constantly sought the balance between lighting and composition, aiming to express the intimacy between the characters while ensuring the lens highlighted our garments' standout features. The wooden staircase banister and the sunflower painting framed wonderful foreground and background layers; when the lighting fell into place, that warm yet enigmatic aura surfaced effortlessly.
Partnering with @然也非也 was seamless—rather than forcing stiff poses, interacting naturally according to our characters' personalities yielded organic frames. Cosplaying characters from Genshin Impact is always deeply rewarding, especially when recreating beloved roles alongside a partner you admire. These costumes possess intense layering—layer upon layer—making dressing up feel almost like assembling a scale model, especially the metallic hardware and harness straps on the back, which were impossible to fasten alone without a partner's help. The studio lighting relied primarily on warm side-lighting, so to keep facial contours from looking flat, we spent a long time dialing in face angles. Whether shooting on location or in a studio, the most fulfilling part is navigating wardrobe and location hurdles together with your partner. We deliberated over positioning, utilizing the staircase's spatial depth, and whether to use the sunflower frame as our primary leading line. Looking back at these two frames now, that afternoon still feels wonderfully fulfilling. The bond between Columbina and Sandrone in the Genshin Impact lore already carries immense depth to explore, and we did our best to reflect that atmosphere through our expressions and body language. Whether it was the striking contrast between blonde and black hair or the juxtaposition of black-and-gold against blue-and-white dresses, everything rendered beautifully in the frames. Because my editing process is usually slow, I decided to post the raw captures directly this time, keeping the original tones without slapping on heavy filters.
