[Zibai cosplay] Genshin Impact: The aloof adeptus in the bamboo forest

From receiving this Zibai costume back in March until now, it has finally achieved its most satisfying presentation. The moment I first unboxed the parcel, the cyan-and-white fabric paired with the plush fur trim around the collar and cuffs created rich visual depth. To faithfully match that celestial yet aloof aura from Genshin Impact, we put considerable effort into the props: the metallic lacquer finish and golden engravings on the sword in hand carried striking textural realism under the light, though holding a solid prop for hours definitely made my wrist quite sore.

To find the ideal setting, we deliberately selected a dense bamboo forest. The upright posture of the bamboo complemented the graceful drape of the costume beautifully, and the overarching ambient color palette served as a perfect backdrop to accentuate the character's nuances. The sunlight on the day of the shoot was magnificent, filtering gently through the gaps in the bamboo leaves. Photographer Jing Yiyiyi was exceptionally skilled at catching dynamic light and shadow, and we tested numerous angles on set. During backlit shots, gorgeous rim lighting outlined the wig and the fur edges of the garment; however, due to the high contrast ratio, balancing facial fill light required repeatedly repositioning the reflector boards.

In Photo 1, I turned in profile and extended an arm forward; to keep the arm silhouette clean, the flowing motion of the wide sleeve relied entirely on the wind and movement, taking several attempts before capturing the most natural fluttering arc. In Photo 2, I sat on the ground blanketed with fallen leaves, gazing down at the sword to seize a quiet, contemplative mood. Photo 3—kneeling while looking straight into the camera—is my absolute favorite; this angle not only highlighted the details across the chest of the outfit and the leg proportions, but also established direct, poignant eye contact with the viewer. Photo 4 featured lifting one leg while holding the blade, primarily designed to showcase the texture of the tall boots and the lines of the thigh. The weather was still chilly when we shot this, and the forest soil was damp; kneeling and crouching in the mud while wearing tall boots and a short skirt inevitably soiled the hem with dirt and dried leaves, taking half a day just to clean out the fur trims afterward.

Coincidentally, today is the Mid-Autumn Festival, which resonates wonderfully with the moon-chasing sentiment mentioned in the caption. The cool-toned palette and lunar resonance of this set truly evoke the serene, quiet elegance of a festive night. Spanning the months between the March shoot and the September release, revisiting these frames instantly brings back the rustling sound of bamboo leaves swaying in the breeze and the intense focus spent refining props and expressions. From costume coordination to the on-location shoot in the wild, every aspect fell into place just as envisioned, making this a thoroughly delightful creative journey.
