The photos were taken inside the car when the lighting was at its best. With the cold wind constantly rushing through the car window, my hands were getting stiff from the cold, but this was undeniably the most photogenic angle to showcase the outfit that day. My first character to cosplay in 2026 was Columbina (Damselette cosplay), and preparations started weeks ago. When I got this red-to-black gradient wig, I spent a lot of time styling the bangs and ends, applying plenty of setting spray to achieve that light, floating feel. The purple contact lenses caught the light beautifully under strong illumination, and paired with rosy blush and glossy lip tint, they fit the character's makeup texture perfectly. I fine-tuned the subtle angle of the gaze multiple times, as the expression conveyed varies under different lighting conditions.
The costume design is remarkably exquisite; the white sections are made of crisp, structured fabric, contrasting sharply with the blue crescent moon ornament and gold clasps on the chest. The white hollow choker on the neck was tricky to put on at first; to ensure it didn't lose its shape when looking down, I lined the inner layer with soft silicone. The wing hairpiece on my head was rather heavy, requiring a precise anchoring point so it wouldn't tilt while sitting in the car or walking around later. The straps at the neckline were also readjusted to ensure breathability without exposing the thermal base layers underneath.
Visiting Genshin Impact Fes today was a special experience—the outdoor temperature was freezing, but the energy while queuing and inside the venue was incredibly lively. Transitioning between freezing cold and warm indoor air was a challenge for keeping my composure, especially during outdoor shooting. Inside, to faithfully recreate the Damselette's mysterious and aloof aura, I deliberately minimized large movements in front of the camera, maintaining a quiet and graceful poise. The natural light inside the car illuminated my face cleanly, making my skin look luminous, though the chilly wind dried it out slightly, requiring two moisturizer touch-ups between takes. The blue-and-gold crescent embellishment on the chest was meticulously hand-painted, matching the aesthetic of Genshin Impact. Walking through the venue, hearing players recognize the character and call out her name was deeply rewarding and melted the biting chill away.
This work for the Genshin Impact Creator Program is now officially released. For wearing cosplay outfits with higher skin exposure in winter, I strongly recommend wearing skin-tone thermal innerwear underneath to withstand the cold outdoors. The sheen of the wig was striking under backlighting, and the red gradient layers looked much richer in profile. Shooting inside the car was chosen mainly because the backlit environment diffused any plastic glare from the fabric, rendering the white reflections soft and natural. Moving around the Fes venue, since the skirt hem is wide, I had to be mindful not to step on it and keep my steps measured. To elevate the overall look, my nails were painted with a sheer color echoing the outfit. My biggest takeaway is that despite the winter chill, when sunlight streamed through the window onto the red wig tips and purple pupils, every single moment felt worthwhile. I hope the weather will be warmer for future Anime convention cosplay events.
