The character I cosplayed for this anime convention is Elysia from Honkai Impact 3rd in her Elysia: Realm of Memory design. I chose this look because I love her personality and visual style, especially the unique atmosphere brought by Realm of Memory. This shoot was a set of Convention photos; with the heavy convention crowd, capturing a clean, dark background was no easy feat. First, regarding the makeup and styling: the pink wig required trimming the bangs and edges myself to build clear layers, which, paired with pointed elf ears, brought out that otherworldly agility. For eye makeup, I avoided heavy colors, focusing instead on elongating the eye shape for a gentle expression, combined with brightening the complexion. Because it was indoors with complex lighting, the base makeup was applied solidly to avoid looking dull. The outfit is a black off-the-shoulder gown; the silky sheen of the fabric looks great under the lights, and the purple floral accents at the waist paired with gold cords keep the look from feeling too heavy. There were many small accessories, especially the translucent wrist scarves and long gloves, which took quite a bit of effort to put on, but these details are indispensable for faithful character recreation. During shooting, I discussed with the photographer to find a darker corner and utilized the venue's backlighting to illuminate my silhouette, creating an aura effect inherent to the character. The bouquet served as an excellent prop, gracefully concealing part of the body lines and adding elegance. Throughout the shoot, I kept my gaze gentle, as if gazing at something beautiful. The hardest part of a Convention photo shoot is managing the crowded background and chaotic lighting, so choosing a darker spot and highlighting the subject with light helped diminish the background and emphasize the focal point. Thanks to prior preparation, the shoot went quickly, completing the main compositions in about half an hour, and reviewing the raw shots was an absolute delight. In portraying this character, the focus was on elegance and ethereal grace, the signature temperament of Elysia: Realm of Memory. Although the venue was noisy, entering the character state made everything feel instantly quiet. Capturing satisfying photos brings immense joy; as a cosplayer, showcasing beloved characters is deeply rewarding. Moving forward, I will continue deepening my understanding of this character, such as refining post-production details, to deliver work even truer to her authentic essence. Considering the complexity of convention lighting, I brought specialized base makeup and setting powder to prevent sweat and melting. Fortunately, the venue temperature was decent. The wig was pre-styled, so there was no worry of it collapsing. Angle management was crucial during shooting, as elf ears paired with a black dress can look unflattering or dim if not angled well, so body-turning and lighting were used to define the contours. The photographer guided poses skillfully; the bouquet placement, for instance, was refined multiple times until it rested naturally against the chest. The core of this styling lies in composure and tenderness. When posing, I relaxed my neck and shoulder lines, turned my head, half-closed my eyes, and felt the serenity of immersing in flowers and light. This tranquility is the core sensation of Realm of Memory. Convention photos often carry a degree of randomness, but this spontaneity, combined with character-specific expressions, occasionally yields unexpected candid magic. Though the shoot was brief, it caught the softest lighting. Regarding the outfit, the large purple flower at the waist deserves special mention—it has a strong presence without clashing against the black dress, adding a dreamy quality. To fit the theme of Realm of Memory, the bouquet was carefully prepared; the softness of fresh blooms contrasted nicely with the structured black gown. The true cosplayer experience is exploring the character's persona throughout this journey and aligning one's demeanor with hers. These are very personal takeaways. This shoot also revealed more styling possibilities, such as combining this hairstyle with elf ears—a truly wonderful match. I hope every makeup and styling prep brings fresh inspiration.
