[Takanashi Rikka cosplay] Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions Convention photo Log

Today I am sharing the photo shoot record from this Takanashi Rikka convention appearance.

Prior to the shoot, I invested considerable time into styling and cosmetic preparation. Starting with the hair, cutting and styling the purple short bob to match the character's canonical design required extensive fine-tuning. The iconic ahoge sprout on top demanded repeated shaping with hairspray and a blow dryer to lock in that slight upward curve. A vivid bright-yellow bow clip was fastened to the right side of the wig, creating a sharp chromatic contrast. For the eyes, to recreate the character's Heterochromia trait, I wore a blue contact lens on one side and a green one on the other; paired with an under-eye blush application, the overall facial aesthetic achieved an immersive, delicate anime presence.

The wardrobe consists of a lolita-style dress in a rich black and purple palette. The black top features long sleeves with ruffled cuffs spliced with sheer black mesh, complemented by rows of white bead trims along the shoulders. A massive light-purple ribbon bow at the chest serves as the visual centerpiece; due to its generous size, careful fluffing was required to keep it crisp and structured. The skirt boasts remarkable volume and layering: the outermost layer is a black flared umbrella skirt embellished with lavender criss-cross ribbon lacing and bow knots, while the ruffled hem cascades in three distinct tiers of black, lilac, and deep purple, each trimmed with white beaded ball fringe. The ensemble looks richly detailed on camera and carries noticeable physical heft when worn.

We picked an outdoor colonnade featuring classical stone pillars and arches as our location. The weather was cooperative with overcast skies; diffused ambient light softened harsh shadows, making it ideal for deep, saturated costume colors. The photographer framed the compositions thoughtfully, utilizing the clean architectural perspectives to anchor the character squarely in the center while gently blurring out the depth of field. For posing, I explored three distinct expressions: the first with index fingers pointing at both cheeks with a slight head tilt for playful charm; the second with left arm folded over the chest and right fingertips tapping the chin to project a pensive, tsundere aura; and the third with clasped hands rested at the chest accompanied by a gentle head cant to exude docile innocence. Because the sleeves feature voluminous gathers, dynamic arm poses naturally flared the sleeves out to showcase the tailoring. I continually calibrated foot placement to let the sweeping flare and geometry of the skirt hem spread naturally.

Shooting on site at a convention is notoriously fast-paced and demands quick immersion into character. Thankfully, the entire session flowed smoothly—the base makeup stayed clean, and the wig remained pristine. Reviewing the raw files afterward always reveals delightful sartorial nuances and expressive micro-moments. From the stylized wig to the multi-layered dress, this Takanashi Rikka styling is packed with distinct character, making for a truly memorable shoot. Documenting these intricacies is my way of preserving both the craftsmanship of the outfit and the creative energy of the set.
