[Miyamoto Musashi cosplay] Fate/Grand Order 10th Anniversary Project: A Summer Adventure Snatched by a Seaside Hawk

This set of photos was captured on a Seaside location shoot at Shirahama Beach in Wakayama, belonging to the Fate/Grand Order 10th Anniversary Project "under the same sky" series. Since the theme is "Niten Ichi-ryu: Summer Form," we opted out of armor in favor of a much more refreshing, breezy red-and-black summer styling. The waters at Shirahama Beach are crystal clear; the turquoise ocean and white sand, set against distant hotels and lush mountains, formed an expansive backdrop for our Summer Film.

The outfit features a vibrant red-and-black color block: the red off-the-shoulder cropped top shines brightly under the sun, accented with black-and-white checkerboard trimming along the hem to enhance the design flair. Black raw-hem denim shorts paired with a white belt sporting a large silver buckle, finished with chunky-soled motorcycle boots, perfectly embody Miyamoto Musashi's untamed, dashing summer spirit. The pink wig is a custom-highlighted piece; due to strong ocean breezes, my assistant frequently helped touch up and secure the top buns between takes to keep the shape neat. The dual long sword props, striped in red, yellow, and blue, measure over a meter long; although lightweight, holding them or thrusting them into the sand for extended periods was quite a test of arm endurance.

The sunlight on the shooting day was splendid, with strong luminous clarity. The photographer @TeppanSquidMan managed light and shadow with exquisite finesse, utilizing reflections on the water's surface to create a gorgeous shimmering bokeh effect. Standing in the water with the tide gently submerging my calves, the cool ocean water and the scorching sand created a wonderfully refreshing tactile contrast. However, the most unexpected turn of events across the entire shoot happened during the beach picnic scene.

In fact, before shooting, the photographer had warned us that there were many wild seabirds around this Seaside location shoot area, and to guard our food carefully. Just as I placed a disposable box of fried noodles onto the sand with the two swords planted diagonally beside it as props, a massive sea hawk swooped straight down. Its target was crystal clear—the box of shredded pork fried noodles—and its speed was so terrifyingly swift that no one had time to react. My immediate instinct was dodging to avoid getting pecked, which caused the entire bowl of noodles and sauce to overturn, splashing all over the sand and the sword scabbards.

Staring at the absolute mess, we were all startled for a second before bursting into uncontrollable laughter together. The photographer reacted with lightning speed, snapping close-ups of the hawk circling overhead and noodles hanging off the swords. Since the accident had already occurred, I simply let go of managing my facial expressions. In the photos, I held my hands in prayer toward the spilled noodles or clutched my head in mock despair—those genuine, half-laughing expressions were totally authentic.

As a cosplayer portraying Miyamoto Musashi in Fate/Grand Order, beyond recreating the visual aesthetic, what I look forward to most is immersing the character into real-world environments and sparking unforeseen stories. This surprise encounter with a food-snatching hawk may have made a mess of the props, but it ended up creating the most down-to-earth, genuine memory point for this "Summer Form" set. Looking back at these Summer Film photos, I can vividly recall the scent of the sea breeze and the touch of ocean spray—these imperfect accidents are truly the most touching magic of a Seaside location shoot.
