Taking advantage of Chimelong's Halloween event this time, I brought Haze's Sanatorium Strange Tales styling to the amusement park's night session for a shoot. Although this outfit looks like a classic black-and-white maid style, it really has an abundance of details. The black-and-white striped pieced fabric, layered ruffled apron, and those red ribbons and cross elements are all particularly recognizable. To fit the atmosphere of Halloween and strange tales, I specially matched it with that small cross-body red emergency kit and gray animal ears, making the head styling look fuller.
Shooting night outdoor scenes is actually quite a test for lighting. Although the amusement park's lights are colorful, most of them are relatively messy. The photographer used a main light source from the front to ensure facial clarity and skin transparency, which allowed the warm yellow lights of the carousel and tower in the background to serve as an atmospheric backdrop. To my pleasant surprise, the background light spots formed a great contrast with the red-and-black color scheme on the character, preventing the frame from appearing too dark.
In terms of clothing coordination, the waist-cinching design of this outfit is fantastic, paired with white over-the-knee stockings and red Mary Jane shoes, visually lengthening the leg lines. The black leather leg garter on the thigh is the finishing touch, adding a tiny bit of dark attribute. When shooting sitting in front of the amusement park's pink float, with calves naturally hanging down, the composition could just completely showcase the white stockings and red shoes. When shooting near the swing, utilizing the thick golden iron chains as the foreground, matched with holding a skull prop, that suspenseful yet slightly playful strange tale vibe came right out.
Chimelong Paradise's night scene setups are extremely rich, especially that huge pink plush pillar; shooting while leaning against it created a contrast between the huge mass and the character's petite figure. The amusement park's carousel is a must-shoot scene; once all the light bulbs lit up, sitting beside the railing and making V-signs with both hands allowed even simple actions to capture a very joyful atmosphere. There were also decorations with a bit of Halloween color, such as that huge skull prop; when holding it, I intentionally did not show fear, but instead looked at the lens with a calm gaze, which actually had more of that casual vibe found in strange tales.
In terms of makeup, to match Haze's character traits, the eye makeup was relatively heavy. Red eyeshadow blended at the outer corners of the eyes, paired with brownish-toned contact lenses, striving to create that slightly jaded yet eye-catching gaze. In expression management, this time I didn't make too many exaggerated movements, mainly maintaining a slightly turned-side face, gaze straight into the lens, hands cupping the chin or naturally placed in front of the chest, allowing the entire character to present a static delicacy. Under the dim lighting, the delicate costume details and the texture of the props could be wonderfully highlighted.
