Braving the blazing sun outdoors, I wrapped up this location photoshoot for Momoka Hanyuu cosplay from Arknights. Preparations for this look were quite tedious, especially styling the wig. To construct that ring-shaped chignon atop my head, I padded the wig with plenty of internal supports, and the red hair ribbons needed to be tied just right—neither too loose nor suffocatingly tight. The white coral hair ornaments and golden tassels on either side reflected brightly in the sun, but because of their noticeable weight, I had to stay mindful of balance while walking to keep them from tilting off-center.
As for makeup, pink colored contacts were the key to capturing the character's gaze, and the beauty mark beneath my eye was deliberately defined using waterproof eyeliner. To harmonize with the overall color scheme, eyeshadow was blended in reddish-pink tones, paired with a vibrant true-red lip color. The Japanese-style outfit is richly layered: white ruffles at the neckline, origami-like pleating across the chest, and that colossal red-and-gold patterned bow at the waist make the entire ensemble remarkably fitted. The voluminous sleeves feature pink pleating and jacquard motifs, with red piping along the edges that stands out sharply on camera, beautifully complementing the Long pink hair.
Shooting on location really tests your command over lighting. Though the background was simply yellow-and-black barricades and an ordinary street, utilizing a wide aperture to blur the background created an evocative sense of spatial depth that merged the virtual with reality. The pose in Photo 1 is rather restrained, with the Folding fan prop resting gently against my shoulder and my left hand extending outward, relying primarily on eye expression to convey the character's gentleness. In Photo 2, opening the Folding fan prop to half-conceal my face tested wrist stability significantly; the angle of the fan needed to be precise so as not to obscure too much of my facial contour while keeping the gaze piercing and expressive. Photo 3 is a dynamic moment I personally love: spreading both arms wide, capturing the instant when the white sheer chiffon and wide sleeves fluttered in the wind. To capture the sleeves flowing gracefully without appearing bulky, I flicked my sleeves dozens of times on site, repeatedly adjusting arm height and body turns.
The sunlight that day was glaringly bright. To keep my eyes open and maintain a natural smile, I constantly searched for backlit or side-lit angles. Walking outdoors in this Japanese-style outfit for hours, the ruffled neckline combined with long sleeves certainly felt stuffy, and perspiration meant frequent makeup touch-ups. Every time I do cosplay, from trimming wigs and ironing garments to the actual live shoot, it's essentially an ongoing process of tackling unforeseen challenges. The tassels on the Folding fan prop easily tangled with the sleeve patterns during shooting, so during breaks I was always untangling props and tidying the garment's edges.
The character of Momoka Hanyuu possesses a vibrant dynamism, so when posing, one cannot simply remain rigid. I micro-adjusted the angle of my chin according to the focal length of the lens or slightly turned sideways to showcase the dimensional tailoring of the costume. This photo set documents my personal interpretation of the character's appearance and aura, serving as a milestone shooting summary. Today happens to be Momoka's birthday, and organizing the preparation and shoot results of this period at this exact moment holds a very special meaning for me.
