Shooting this Touhou Project Sakuya Izayoi cosplay work in a Butler uniform was primarily aimed at presenting a crisp, sharp yet mysterious ambiance. Starting with the hairstyle: this silver wig was re-trimmed, adjusting the length of the forehead bangs and the thickness of the braids on both sides (Silver-haired twin tails), secured with delicate yellow elastics to align visually closer to the original design. For makeup, bright blue contact lenses were used while lightening the brows; the eyeliner was deliberately elongated and deepened, and lower lashes were emphasized, all to sculpt that cool, penetrating gaze.
The wardrobe selected was a navy blue suit jacket with black lapels and a matching black bow tie over a white shirt. With zero skin exposure, this outfit suited the character's rigorous, composed demeanor even better. The core prop was a silver pocket watch—the vintage numerals on the dial and the metallic chain had superb texture, which not only added depth to the frame when held, but also served as a visual focal point during posing. Multiple lighting techniques were employed during the shoot: side lighting accentuated the bridge of the nose and the stern gaze, while backlighting captured the translucent sheen of individual hair strands. Holding the watch chain across the eyes added an enigmatic sense of distance.
The overall concept pursued a serene, cool Gothic aesthetic. In posing, holding the pocket watch to showcase the dial, resting a hand gently on the chest, or taking selfies in the mirror all served to portray the character's aloof yet elegant poise. In retouching, high contrast was retained and shadows were crushed deep to sharpen edge contours, perfectly matching the character's classic impression in Touhou Project. In truth, shooting this style demands strict control over facial expression—eyes focused, yet emotions restrained. Hand poses were also intentionally refined during this shoot; well-defined knuckles added a sense of strength. Regarding the traditionally masculine Butler uniform, it possesses a unique charm when worn by a woman, and the crisp contrast between the silver hair and deep blue suit looked impeccably clean. Post-processing focused on subject-background separation to make the character pop. From styling nuances to prop prep, significant care went into polishing this look, making for a rigorous and rewarding cosplay recreation.
