From character design to in-game illustrations, Miss Velina in Zenless Zone Zero exudes a wonderfully composed and mature allure. Cosplaying this motherly Velina look brought many memorable impressions during the shoot. The color palette immediately feels right at home in a bar or tavern setting, with deep blue velvet as the base fabric offering an understated luxury feel. Complemented by large areas of white high collar and cuffs, along with metallic stud embellishments at the neckline, the character's refined elegance is instantly elevated to the maximum.
The highlight of the styling was mainly handling the wig and the Elf ear style. The silvery-white hair tone flatters skin tone remarkably well, and paired with that substantial large bow, side braids, and this pair of elf ears, one instantly slips into character upon putting them on. To better match Velina's aura, I deliberately incorporated a hint of purplish-pink eyeshadow into the eye makeup, which brightens the gaze while creating a soft transition with the blue-and-white garments, keeping the makeup clean yet captivatingly alluring.
The waist and hemline design of this outfit really tests fabric firmness. The black leather belt with white pendant accents cinches the waistline effectively, visually elongating body proportions. The white hem trim spliced with black-and-white diamond check patterns and cascading tassels gives the lower half rich visual depth. During the actual shoot, these intricate accessories felt somewhat heavy when moving around, but the final outcome made all the preparatory effort worthwhile.
Pairing White over-the-knee socks with glitter heels served as the finishing touch of the overall ensemble. The lace-trimmed White over-the-knee socks exude feminine grace, while the silver platform glitter heels not only stand out against the bar counter and wooden flooring, but also accentuate slender leg lines. A mature, motherly character requires not just visual maturity, but an inner composure and confidence; this tailored outfit paired with heels naturally straightens one's posture whether sitting or standing.
The shoot took place in an atmospheric vintage leather-style bar. The liquor cabinet, leather couches, bar counter, and warm amber backlighting created a striking contrast between warm ambient tones and the character's cool silvery-white and navy palette. The shots seated at the bar not only took full advantage of spatial depth, but also fostered great interaction between the subject and the bar surroundings. The leather sofa offered another cozy spot, where the deep brown leather surface complemented the blue-and-white outfit, giving each pool of light a cinematic quality.
For props, the white folding fan was delightful, with blue and yellow accents that perfectly echoed the costume's primary colors. Opening the fan overhead or casually toying with it in hand provided versatile poses before the camera. Holding a drink glass instantly immersed me in that relaxed, lazy mood, perfectly expressing that effortless poise when combined with the styling. A motherly charm lies precisely in this effortless composure—facing the lens with calm ease is key.
Regarding camera angles, we experimented with several unique compositions. Beyond standard standing and sitting poses, we shot perspectives semi-reclined on the carpet with legs resting against the sofa edge, as well as shots leaning over the bar counter. Such unconventional poses test body fluidity, but fortunately, the skirt hem was flowing enough to cover awkward folds, creating a dynamic, casual grace.
Because the character's personality carries a hint of mystery, I deliberately curbed broad smiles, relying more on the eyes to convey emotion. This subtly lazy yet focused gaze conveys far richer narrative depth than a simple smile. Looking back at the styling and shoot, beyond admiring the charming art design of this character in Zenless Zone Zero, I also gained new interpretations of my own performance.
The doujin creator festival was a wonderful opportunity to bring this beloved character to life under the spotlights and lens. Although the look was full of intricate details—from metallic necklace chains and cuff buttons to the black-and-white checkered hem, all needing careful fastening beforehand—seeing the finished photos made all the preparation feel completely natural, completing a set of works I'm very pleased with for this Cosplay sharing.
