[Komeiji Koishi cosplay] Touhou Project Touhou Fanon Style Interpretation

This time, I bring an interpretation in Touhou fanon style based on the character Komeiji Koishi from Touhou Project. From overall styling to prop details, every element attempts to present the unique temperament of the girl who wanders between Gensokyo and beyond conscious awareness.

Let's start with the core styling: the wig color selected is a soft light grass green rather than a highly saturated green, which fits better with the soft, naturally infused setting in fanon interpretations. The bangs were trimmed to look slightly textured and piecey, while the black soft hat on top paired with a deep blue-green bow immediately pulls the visual center of gravity to the head. For makeup coordination, grey-blue contact lenses paired with warm brick-red lip gloss make the gaze appear both lively and imbued with that ethereal quality unique to the character.

The design layering of the outfit is something I'm quite satisfied with. The inner piece is a white shirt with lace trim, featuring exquisite collar folds. The highlight of the outer layer lies in the deep green and black alternating fabric around the collar and shoulders—its texture resembles moss or some natural covering—punctuated by blue-grey-white fabric flowers at the neckline, giving the entire outfit a storytelling feel.

The biggest workload this time was actually on the props. The vines wrapped around the silver-grey blade on the left side couldn't be too loose, otherwise they'd slip off during movements, so I secured them with double-sided tape and needlework. The purple prop held in my right hand is a key element in this Touhou fanon style; to maintain structural integrity from different angles, I adjusted the arrangement of vines and small white flowers many times. Polishing the overall props not only increased visual appeal for Cosplay photography, but also better aligned with the concrete manifestation of Komeiji Koishi's various abilities in Touhou fanon interpretations.

Regarding photography, a high-angle top-down selfie perspective was specifically chosen. This camera language conveys a sense of looking down or peeking from above, perfectly matching her uninhibited personality trait of wandering outside conscious awareness. The faintly visible blue, white, and cyan mosaic tiles in the background also provide a great color reference, keeping the frame from looking monotonous. Combined with soft, even lighting without harsh shadows, it highlights the character's maidenly innocence.

As a fan of Touhou Project, trying fanon designs is a very interesting process. Fanon means we can add imaginative touches aligned with our own aesthetics without straying from the character's core elements. Whether in selecting costume fabrics, prop proportions, or fine-tuning hair color, we can play with our own creative twists. Komeiji Koishi's lore is inherently special—her existence, abilities, and interactions with others are often granted warm yet whimsical stories in derivative fanon creations. My styling this time also attempted to capture that everyday feel mixed with subtle strangeness.

While preparing these props and costume, I encountered a few minor challenges—for instance, ensuring the wig's fluffiness naturally covered the hairline during high-angle shots rather than looking flat. To achieve this, I specially backcombed the hair roots. As for the irregular purple prop, holding it naturally required repeatedly finding proper hand support points during rehearsals.

Overall, this set of Komeiji Koishi cosplay works from Touhou Project experimented with gentle, natural grass-green tones and high-angle perspectives. Whether paying homage to the original work or boldly interpreting Touhou fanon style, this shoot was a wonderful experience for Cosplay photography and ACGN sharing.
