Having received the photos back from photographer @FengZiyun, this set of Yao's finished photos can finally be fully displayed.
I posted some of the content previously, but it didn't get much traffic on the platform. Including my other works outside of Touhou Project, the response has been quite average. I've actually been wondering if it's due to the platform's recommendation mechanism or if this type of style has become somewhat homogenized nowadays. But regardless, I still want to properly share a work that I prepared so meticulously.
This time, the location chosen was an outdoor scene with intertwined roots of massive wild trees. Although the character Yao Yao is a support in the game, the \"deer spirit\" concept has a very playful, forest-elf vibe. The pink twin-tails paired with fluffy ears and deer antlers, combined with the eye makeup and the red scar facial paint, allow the overall beast-like elements to blend beautifully into this sea of greenery.
In the two sets of collages that everyone sees, there are different attempts at poses and perspectives. The vine staff prop was actually quite difficult to handle. To twist out the texture of coiled withered wood, the prop maker put in a lot of effort; during the shoot, if my range of motion was even slightly too large, the wrapped vines would slip off, requiring re-arrangement. As for the costume, it's a white tube top with brown leather straps, plus the draping of the cloak, coupled with the fur trim at the boot cuffs. It was actually a bit cold standing in the wind in a forest park during early winter, but I pushed through for the sake of the final photo results.
The photographer prefers this kind of cyan-toned color grading; the trees in the original raw photos were actually greyish-brown, but through post-processing color shifts, the grass and shadows turned into a very magical cyan-green. Paired with this two-grid collage layout, it can simultaneously display single-person close-ups, standing poses, and sitting poses. Like the feeling of sitting with curled legs under the tree in the first collage, as if waiting for teammates; while the full-body shot standing up with the staff carries the alertness of a fawn patrolling its territory. As a cosplayer, no matter what the traffic data is like, being able to take photos that satisfy myself, with the light, shadow, and atmosphere all in place, has already achieved the original intention of this shoot. I hope this work, carrying natural wild beauty and an elven temperament, can let everyone feel the unique charm of this character.
