This photoshoot for Umikaze (Sea breeze cosplay) from Azur Lane (Azur Lane) took nearly half a month of preparation, putting immense care into everything from costume details to prop assembly. I had always wanted to shoot a set featuring wings, and pairing that with Umikaze's persona while choosing a seaside location finally fulfilled a long-cherished wish.
First, regarding the two indoor looks: the first was a white dress paired with bunny ears, centering on an adorable, cozy loungewear vibe. To make the hair look natural, I specifically chose a cool grey-toned wig, personally trimming the bangs and using a flat iron to give them a subtle inward curl. Indoor shoots rely heavily on lighting; to avoid harsh shadows from overhead lights, I asked the photographer to use warm-toned side rim lighting, which, combined with the plush toys on the sofa, instantly maximized the cozy atmosphere. The second look carried a hint of subtle allure, featuring a bodysuit paired with fuzzy leg warmers. Because the garment was quite form-fitting, I tried to avoid appearing overly tense in my poses. The leg-lifting pose actually tested core stability quite a bit; to keep my facial expression natural, I reminded myself countless times to relax while paying close attention to the garment's fold lines so the silhouette photographed cleanly.
Next came the outdoor Japanese-style garden. This off-the-shoulder, modernized outfit in white with blue patterns paired with a pleated skirt was exceptionally gentle. The over-the-knee White stockings (White stockings) were the soul of this styling; I selected a slightly thick velvet fabric with gentle compression so it wouldn't cast reflections under natural outdoor light, offering superior texture while flattering the leg lines. The platform geta clogs took some getting used to at first and made balancing tricky, but the rhythmic tapping sound on the wooden bridge felt wonderful. Since the top was an off-the-shoulder cut, I applied invisible non-slip tape inside to prevent wardrobe slips, and applied fine highlighter across the collarbones so the skin looked luminous in the sunlight.
Finally, the seaside shots with wings. Honestly, that colossal pair of winged props was remarkably heavy! To make the wings look spirited and lifelike, I chose feathers with a white-to-blue gradient, reinforcing the base with hot glue. The sea wind was intense, sending the wig and skirt flying constantly, which placed high demands on the photographer's timing. To anchor the wings securely, we strapped sturdy hidden harnesses underneath. For this setting, I switched to a high ponytail tied with a blue ribbon; when the sea breeze swept through, that windblown elegance surfaced effortlessly. I also wore over-the-knee White stockings (White stockings) paired with sandals, which elongated the leg lines beautifully. The biggest risk with outdoor shoots is stiff facial expressions; my takeaway is to follow the wind's direction, let it brush naturally across your cheeks, and keep a distant, dreamy gaze as if truly looking at something across the open sea, rather than staring rigidly into the camera lens.
The entire shoot went very smoothly, with makeup and scenes harmonizing wonderfully. As a cosplayer, every photoshoot feels like a magical journey—not just recreating a character, but also capturing different facets of myself. I hope this photo set delivers Umikaze's gentle warmth to everyone.
