The official photoshoot for Cheshire Cosplay from Azur Lane is finally compiled! From settling on this styling to adjusting the costume before shooting, a lot of thought went into every step. Since this was a studio shoot, lighting and environmental conditions were precisely controlled; choosing a clean white backdrop brought out every black-and-white lace detail on the dress as well as the vibrant cyan-blue hair gradient.
The outfit's structural design places great emphasis on visual layering. The upper body features an off-the-shoulder wide lace collar complemented by black crisscross strapping, which visually elongates neck lines while beautifully framing shoulder contours. The tight black waist corset structure, combined with flowing black ribbons, creates a vertical stretching effect that balances the puffed skirt hem. The apron and pleated skirt on the lower half stack generous layers of ruffled lace, offering a rich complexity that contrasts delightfully with the upper body's relative simplicity. Of course, White stockings and black Mary Jane shoes are indispensable elements in this outfit—white thigh-high socks bridge the skirt and footwear seamlessly while balancing the proportions of the black-and-white color scheme.
For styling, the wig was a major focal point. A gray-silver base paired with prominent cyan-blue highlights revealed a smooth gradient under soft studio lighting. I specifically trimmed the bangs to rest right above the brow line to emphasize eye expressions. As for makeup, to capture Cheshire's cheerful yet subtly playful nature, I selected light blue contact lenses to echo her hair color. Earth-toned eyeshadow served as a soft base, complemented by fine eyeliner and highlighted aegyo sal, giving her gaze a lively focus without feeling heavy. A warm dusty rose lip color was picked to contrast gently against the cool hair tone, injecting extra vitality into her look.
The shooting process tested physical control quite a bit. Both photos were taken from high top-down angles, which can easily make the upper body appear thick if posture isn't managed carefully, making standing posture and center of gravity control crucial. The pose in Photo 1 features hands gently clasped in front of the chest while leaning forward slightly, showcasing sleeve lace craftsmanship while tightening waistlines naturally. In Photo 2, raising both arms mimics a curious and lively state, clearly displaying the silver chain pendant at the neck and the ID badge on the chest. Though small, these props are essential details that enrich the composition. Soft diffuse lighting shone down from above and the sides during studio shooting, yielding gentle shadows and preserving intricate detail across facial features and lace folds.
Speaking of Cheshire, her character foundation rests on being intensely loyal and eager to accompany her Commander, filled with cat-like playfulness and agility. Therefore, beyond posing gracefully before the lens, conveying intimacy through eye contact is essential. Though this studio set was small in quantity, every photo's lighting and composition underwent careful deliberation. Looking at the silhouette of White stockings paired with round-toe black shoes on screen alongside subtle cross patterns woven into the skirt fabric, the exquisite delicacy of a 2D character naturally shines through. Fine-tuning the wig myself, selecting ideal accessories, and realizing a great state in the studio made for a fascinating creative journey.
