Preparing this Lancer Artoria Alter cosplay costume actually took some time. The deep purple patent leather material features very refined cuts, with subtle reflections along the edges under studio lighting. The bowtie area uses a rigid structure, which better brings out the character's solemn and unruly aura. The purple plush shawl adds a warm visual contrast, giving the entire silhouette more depth and preventing an all-cool color palette from feeling overly stiff. The leather material across the chest and the silver chain on the tie catch the light with an icy sheen.
The Fishnet stockings offer great elasticity, nicely flattering leg contours once stretched. Paired with black high heels featuring red trim, they create a wonderful sense of visual elongation before the lens—a classic sexy pairing in 2D cosplay that perfectly interprets the character's cold, alluring charm. The combination of scale-like details on the garment and plush fur textures provides rich visual layering under the lights, while the snug tailoring puts body posture and lines to the test.
Considering I was shooting alone indoors, I opted for a mirror selfie approach. Sitting on a black gaming chair with crossed legs lowered my visual center of gravity, effectively elongating leg lines, which, paired with the Fishnet stockings and high heels, looked even sleeker. To find the most satisfying angles back then, I tried countless poses in the chair and discarded heaps of test shots; ultimately, these two best matched my expectations, striking a balance between sensual elements and the character's icy demeanor. Having the phone obscure my face actually accentuated the overall body silhouette and garment tailoring. In post-processing, I deliberately preserved the contrast between light and shadow to prevent the frame from looking flat.
For the headpiece, the red bunny ears and black horned accents bring great visual tension. The blonde wig took quite a bit of time to trim—the ends needed to feel soft, while the bangs sat at just the right length to avoid blocking vision while keeping a natural, slightly disheveled flair. For makeup, I focused on reddish-brown eyeshadow to build depth, which, paired with light amber contact lenses, naturally brought out the haughty gaze unique to this Lancer servant.
Although the shoot was tiring—the costume was exceptionally snug, requiring me to keep my back straight at all times to maintain the aura, and prolonged wear of the heels made my feet ache—seeing the final photos made every bit of effort worthwhile. Outfits dominated by cool tones heavily test fabric reflectivity, so during retouching, I intentionally preserved the original luster of the fabric to faithfully recreate its genuine texture. The dark background paired with purple attire created strong tonal cohesion, naturally evoking the right atmosphere. The main goal of this shoot was to accurately convey the character's cool, haughty, yet subtly seductive demeanor through the styling and selfie angles. I am personally very pleased with how this piece turned out. Against the dark backdrop, the purple ensemble and golden hair formed a vivid color contrast that kept the image lively. Moreover, this selfie method allows for a much more intuitive grasp of one's intended emotions compared to hiring an external photographer. All in all, it was a truly fun and memorable shooting experience.
