The overall look of this Yin Yue cosplay came together with wonderful dynamism. For the wig, I went with long straight silver hair cut with blunt bangs; once put on, the crown required careful teasing to build volume so it could properly support the pair of fluffy white animal ears. Securing the animal ears is an art in itself—they must blend seamlessly with the natural hairline while staying firmly anchored through long hours of shooting. To match the equally fluffy, large white tail behind me, we used an invisible waist harness; although it slightly restricted large-scale movements later on, keeping this detail was essential to give the composition a plush, complete feel. For makeup, I swept pink eyeshadow across a wide area paired with blue-violet contact lenses, accentuating the depth of the eyes and enhancing the 2D aesthetic.
The layering of the outfit is very pronounced. The top is a sleeveless white design featuring intricate black-and-silver totem patterns across the chest and abdomen, framed by a soft white fur collar at the neckline. A broad red sash wraps the waist, whose cascading long ribbons create a graceful sense of visual extension during movement. The tiered skirt features a layered tri-color palette of white, black, and red, accented on the side by a white fox mask ornament. Worth special mention is the pair of white tall boots, adorned with silver line patterns, black laces, and metal ring buckles along the edges. The eye-catching red-and-black tassels and silver metal toe caps sway with every step, so we deliberately choreographed poses like leg lifts and pivots to showcase these subtle details.
The shooting location was an indoor setting with classical wooden architecture, featuring dark timber flooring and latticed sliding screen doors on both sides. The backdrop was styled with branches of blooming white flowers and wooden lanterns. The lighting was dialed to a cool color temperature with a shallow depth of field, effectively separating the subject from the background and making the textures pop.
The main prop was a longsword featuring a green hilt and gold accents along the blade. Holding this sword unlocked a much wider range of poses—such as holding the blade horizontally with one hand, resting it across the shoulder, or executing forward thrusts. To showcase different facets of the character, I explored various sitting postures, including hugging my knees on the floor, sitting cross-legged on a straw mat, and striking a formal kneeling seiza stance. Standing poses offered even greater dynamic tension: lifting one leg while pointing the sword straight ahead not only highlighted the cut of the garment and the sleek lines of the legs, but also projected a balance of gentle grace and resolute strength.
Throughout the shoot, I aimed for fluid continuity between poses, transitioning smoothly from stillness into motion so the photographer could capture authentic shifts in expression. With so many intricate details across the costume and props, every adjustment required checking the flow of the skirt and the drape of the red ribbons. Overall, the completion level of this Ancient style look is exceptionally high; the fluffy elements set against cool-toned lighting preserved an adorable charm while channeling a crisp, ethereal coolness. Spending the entire session perfecting fine details was a joy, and I am truly pleased with the final visual texture.
