Leaning halfway against the edge of a sleek black platform, my right hand in a pearlescent, glossy glove rested gently against my cheek. With downcast eyes, wispy silver-grey strands, and vivid red contacts, I aimed to convey a detached, chilly presence. In the wide shot, I stood in profile holding a long staff prop, wearing tall black heeled boots to establish a striking proportional contrast against the foreground, magnifying that suffocating, oppressive weight of being watched by the We Many—intimately close yet deeply isolated (2D).
Preparing the garments and props for this character was a prolonged endeavor. The hat served as the centerpiece of the entire look: an imposing black pointed cone accented with silver reflective strips. To keep it standing upright with sharp contours atop the head, extensive internal structural support was added, testing multiple bobby pins until finding the perfect center of balance. The wig was layered and styled with setting spray to achieve an airy, slightly disheveled texture. The costume adheres to the iconic red-and-black palette—from the tailored curve of the shoulder pads and the black ruffled neckline to the cascading ribbons across the chest, every detail was repeatedly adjusted. Seeking a refined specular sheen, I specifically selected gloves with a subtle blue polarized iridescence; the rich contrast between the red-and-black textiles and metallic accents popped vibrantly against the seamless white studio backdrop.
The primary hurdle on shooting day centered on controlling emotional subtlety and physical posture. Skadi the Corrupting Heart's emotionality is deeply internalized, demanding restraint from dramatic gestures. To maintain this inorganic, quiet apathy, I deliberately slowed my breathing and blinking cadence, repeatedly verifying monitor angles even for the slightest head tilt. Accommodating the diptych collage composition required capturing two entirely distinct setups—close-up and wide-angle—demanding precise control over nuances across focal lengths. For the full-body shots, multiple gaits and standing postures were tested to showcase the silhouette of the outfit and tall boots, avoiding rigidity while preserving the character's innate, commanding presence.
On the lower half, black Stockings paired with pointed-toe high-heeled boots visually refined leg contours in the wide shot, elongating lower-body proportions. Posing inside a pure white cyclorama studio in such a heavy ensemble while maintaining an elusive, distant aura was a true endurance test of stamina and focus. In post-processing, I streamlined the color grading, preserving only the monochrome backdrop and the primary red-and-grey palette of the subject to impart an otherworldly, detached stage atmosphere.
