Today's Asuka swimsuit styling was shot entirely by the outdoor swimming pool. As a highly representative character in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Asuka's personality has an outgoing and passionate trait, so when I was conceptualizing this swimsuit cosplay, I decided to combine these vibrant colors with the outdoor sunlight.

In terms of clothing, a bikini with a bright orange main tone was chosen. Black-and-white checkered elements were added to the edges of the top and sides of the swim briefs, along with the character's English name printed on it, creating a visual that perfectly fits the summer atmosphere. The fabric's color tends to darken slightly when it gets wet by the pool, so it needed to be dried frequently between shots to keep the color bright. The flag in my hand is a custom-made prop inspired by racing elements, featuring a black-and-white checkerboard paired with a yellow-background black-horse logo, making the entire frame more competitive and echoing the character's unyielding drive. The metal pole of the prop is actually a bit heavy in the hand, requiring continuous posture adjustments during the shoot so that the flag could present its most natural, expanded state in the wind.

In terms of makeup and hairstyle, to stay close to the original setting, a bright orange twin-tail wig was worn, with red hair accessories added at the roots. The eye makeup strongly enhanced the visual effect of the blue contact lenses, while using orange-red tinted eyeshadow to echo the overall color scheme. Because the outdoor light was very strong, the base makeup was intentionally given a matte finish to avoid looking too greasy under harsh light. The wig was prone to tangling outdoors due to the wind, so it needed a simple styling brush-up after every pose change to maintain the character's integrity.

The shooting location was chosen as an outdoor park with a swimming pool. The background featured palm trees and distant city buildings, and the blue sky and white clouds made the colors of the frame very rich. To capture the coolness of the poolside, I tried many things with positioning and posture. For example, leaning the body forward slightly, holding the flag pole with both hands, or placing the center of gravity on one leg; these postures can use body lines to guide the visual focus while making the swimsuit styling look more tense. Under strong sunlight, I tried to avoid squinting directly at the sun, choosing instead side-light or back-light angles, and used a reflector to fill in light on the face, which ensured the details of facial makeup and the light-and-shadow layers of the body.

The overall challenge of this shoot was balancing the display of the flag prop while maintaining the natural state of the model. Often, it required holding up the flag pole with one hand while the other hand cooperated with the body posture, which tested both physical strength and expression management. The ground temperature by the pool was relatively high, and standing barefoot required quickly adjusting the center of gravity to avoid stiff movements caused by standing for too long. In action design, I deliberately stretched the lines of arms and legs as much as possible so that they could present better proportions in the lens. The water ripples and greenery in the background provided great natural layers, giving it a strong atmosphere without needing too much heavy post-processing.

Finally, during photo selection, I found that this orange swimsuit matched extremely strikingly with the blue sky and green water in the background. Coupled with the flag prop in hand, the whole frame carries both a summer relaxed vibe and retains the character recognition of cosplay itself, making it a very satisfying swimming pool photography experience.
