The set design for this shoot mainly wanted to highlight the playful style of a retro carnival. The red velvet curtains combined with the black-and-white checkerboard floor instantly set the tone for the entire group of photos. The character's core setting incorporates magician elements, so I specially prepared playing cards as shooting props to allow the movements to blend more naturally into the environment.
The costume part features a combination of red, white, and black colors. The diamond lattice pattern on the upper body, along with the exaggerated ruffled cuffs, features playing card suit elements that perfectly echo the magician theme. The black-and-white patchwork little bunny-eared top hat is the highlight of the head styling; when shooting, you need to pay attention to its angle so it doesn't cover the wig too tightly. The lower body is paired with thick-soled black ankle boots and leather thigh rings, plus a touch of red pendant ornaments, making the leg lines look sharper.
In terms of hair and makeup, this silvery-white long wig needed time to be styled in advance to ensure that the straight bangs and the hair bundles on both sides had enough fluffiness to look natural in front of the lens. For the makeup, I deliberately used red colored contact lenses and added a red heart mark and white highlights under the eyes, adding a touch of playful atmosphere.
There are also several vintage CRT televisions in the scene, with vivid images playing on the screens. The red curtains, warm string lights, and these televisions form a highly interesting visual collision. These elements combined together convey both a sense of era and that lively stage atmosphere.
In terms of posture control, I tried a variety of states. For example, a relaxed posture sitting on a high stool, or standing while holding playing cards for display. There is also a shot that required standing on one leg on a black circular platform; it took quite a bit of effort to maintain balance at that moment, but the captured snapshot effect gives the overall frame a more dynamic feel. The details in hand movements are also very important; using the cards to block the line of sight or making interactive gestures with the camera can give the photos a greater sense of storytelling.
For this kind of stage-themed shoot, the grooming of the wig and the extension of the sleeves both need to be very meticulous and cannot be too casual. Although the venue setup looks passionate and complex, one still needs to maintain that confident and relaxed demeanor in front of the camera. After seeing the final photos, I feel that the overall sense of drama and the lively, playful qualities I wanted have all been presented.
