[Mudrock cosplay] Arknights Obsidian Mudrock Beijing Anime Convention Photos

On April 6th, braving a sudden cold snap at the Beijing National Convention Center with a massive warhammer heavy enough to make my arms sore, I arrived on schedule at the IJOY Beijing Anime Convention. Today, I'm sharing Convention photos of Obsidian Mudrock from Arknights.

Every time I cosplay this character, the biggest headache is that giant hammer. Though I look effortlessly composed in the photos, hauling it through crowded convention halls is a serious physical workout. For the outfit, I opted for an off-the-shoulder design in black, paired with translucent black mesh sleeves and crisscross chest straps. To add texture, dark green leaf accents decorate the waist. The iconic silver-white straight long hair and crimson eyes are the soul of the look, complemented by gnarled branch-like black horn headpieces and pointed elf ears—securing and adjusting all these makeup and styling details took considerable time.

Because the incandescent ceiling lights at the venue were arranged in a clean grid, finding angles on-site became a fascinating process. I'm immensely grateful to the photographer at the scene; our visions aligned perfectly to utilize floor reflections and background metal railings, capturing the character's calm, cool, and powerful presence. Seated Convention photos—such as those where I sit with legs spread against the black railing—not only project confidence but also beautifully showcase my body lines and the high-heel strap details. The black heels looked remarkably sharp against the dark gray floor, while high and eye-level angle perspectives created a striking gap moe contrast between the massive prop hammer and the delicate figure.

At the convention, passing fans frequently paused to admire the giant hammer or compliment the texture of the wig and makeup. These brief moments of shared passion are always deeply rewarding. As a seasoned cosplayer who regularly attends conventions, I know that Cosplay photography on-site differs from studio shoots—it places far greater demands on a photographer's ability to capture ambient light and isolate the subject cleanly amidst busy backdrops. I particularly adore the composition of Photo 3, which uses the railing as an anchor point while holding the giant hammer firmly and staring directly into the camera lens, capturing Obsidian Mudrock's unique aura just right.

I've cosplayed other variations of this character before, but the Obsidian outfit design certainly aligns better with the casual yet hardcore vibe of an anime convention. Although a full day on my feet was exhausting, the moment I received the preview shots made every bit of effort worthwhile. This set of photos captures not only the real-world embodiment of a fictional character but also documents the memories made while navigating the convention with friends. I hope to continue bringing out this character's charm across various venues with richer depth of field in the future.
